I'm starting to think that the California residents are spreading some dis-information   :smiled:  It's probably heaven, they just don't want anymore people there!

Like William Shakespeer said, "I think thou dost pertest too much"

Yeah it sucks here in calif. To many of you nice people from the mid-west here sucking up our nice weather and crowding our freeways. And the crime sucks(dont tell anybody that I have never locked my front door) and yes property is expensive but on average we make a lot more money, and thee cost of everything else is the same as places where the average income is a lot less. Please dont come to calif it sucks here. I have 10 great hospitals within 10 miles of my house. Some of the best schools and universities right down the street.  yes it sucks, It hardly ever rains and we can ride in warm weather 12 months a year. Please dont come here it sucks.

Ahhh, no. You really wouldn't like it here. The people on the internet say it's no good so everyone should consider themselves warned.

Someday, I'll move back to Chicago. I like places where it snows a lot and gets down to minus 20 degrees for about 4 months out of the year. I also like places where guns have been outlawed.

I live in Lakeland Fl. Great place to be - 1/2 way between Orlando and Tampa with tons of country roads to ride.

Can't do summers and most of the riders look for reasons to go north in Aug-Sept.

I live in Lakeland too, for 45 years.
Summer months are hot but if you ride early or late in the day , things are just about right.
Long about October I have to winterize my bike for the cold months ahead, I throw a sweatshirt in the saddlebag.
As far as finding Utopia, everywhere I have ridden in the summer is HOT until you get into the PNW and along the canadian border or into the mountains but during the midday , it's pretty much hot everywhere.
As long as your not snowed in, anyplace is good, you can travel anytime and anywhere.
It's not about gun control.
It's about CONTROL.

Just got back from a cross country road trip [hate 2 say it was in a car] . We flew into San Diego and drove back to Tennessee . People were not freindly in San Diego and the roads suck but the weather was great. The nicest place was Sedona  Arizona  most beautiful place I've ever been. Probably a pricey place to reside though. All in all it's hard to beat good 'ol muggy Tennessee. We have great riding and we get to enjoy all four seasons.

payday

You can't beat the San Diego weather, period. I am from the East Coast and go the SD three times yealry for vacation. Can't say I would live there permanently, just too many taxes and too many state wide problems. Real Estate is very costly and too close together. I find the people really nice, very friendly and helpful.

No doubt about it, SD and is a great place to vacation for all the usual reasons, but living there is a whole 'nother smoke. I'd recommend spending a few weeks there if you can, before you decide. Remember people are generally nice in the touristy areas because it's their job to be nice.

If sunny weather is your only critereon, then start packing. You won't get better than SD. Just realize there's a price to pay for all that nice weather.
Going down that long, lonesome highway. Gonna live life my way.

How about New Jersey, New York or Ilinois for low taxes, low population and nice weather?

What about Perth?

We have great motorcycling weather and ride all year round - Perth has a mixture of the Californian and Mediterranean climates, with mild winters and hot dry summers. Perth is the sunniest capital in Australia with an average of eight hours sunshine a day. The skies above Perth are often bright blue without a cloud in the sky. Combine the warm weather and beautiful beaches and it's easy to see why so many people enjoy the outdoor lifestyle of Western Australia. In summer many people can be found at one of the many beautiful white sandy beaches along the coast line, cooling down in the clean blue Indian Ocean.

The summer months are hot with an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius during the day, and 17 degrees celsius at night. Beware, those from cold climates, some days around New Year's have been known to rise to and above 40 degrees celcius (about 104 degrees farenheit)! The warm summer days are cooled down in the afternoon with the "Fremantle Doctor", a strong sea breeze that blows in from the ocean. The "Doctor" blows away the hot air trapped above the Perth Metropolitan Area and the Darling Ranges, providing an excellent wind for windsurfing and sailing on the Swan River. Perth experiences a very low rate of humidity, and it is recommended that you drink lots of fluids to avoid becoming dehydrated. It is advisable that when out in the sun you always wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, particularly for small children.

Due to the warm weather there may be water restrictions during the summer. It can affect what time you can water your garden or wash your car. Remember to be water wise and help save the water in our dams. Also due to the warm weather there will most likely be fire restrictions, meaning campers cannot light any camp fires, during summer.
The winter months in Perth are from June to August and are mild, with an average temperature of 18 degrees C during the day, and 9 degrees C at night. The wettest month of the year is July, and the average yearly rainfall is around 880mm. The rain comes down hard and quickly, and is usually followed with sunny periods

Please do NOT come to Pa! We already have too many old geezers driving around at parking lot speeds over our motorcycle roads!

And please don't come to California! There's no more room. If a US Citizen were to move here from another state, it would prevent some worthy illegal alien from getting a better life due to further overcrowding. There's only enough budget left to provide them free emergency medical care, deliver their babies, educate them, pay for their monthly welfare checks and provide a bed and food for them in prison when they commit crimes.

It just wouldn't be "right".    :sink:

In this hemisphere there is NO one place that can fill the bill. Just look at the old folks. They have a place here and there. Go where it's cool, when it's hot. Go where it's hot, when your cold. Them thar ol folk figured it out.

Well, I live in the costal mountains of N. California. I will admit that the weather is great and the roads are great for motorcycles. Also, this is one of the most scenic and beautiful areas of the state and prices of homes  (At least in my county) are affordable. Beyond that, in my humble opine, California is worst state in the USA. Our taxes are "Through the roof" and getting worst every year. The state is near bankruptsy and our legistators refuse to face the facts. They are more interested in being the leaders in smog control, gun control and helping the "Less fortunate" than they are about running a state with fiscal responsibility. In addition, they are "Controlling the budget" by cutting back on critical services - such as the social services that retired folks need - so that they keep giving away to those who do nothing to deserve it and/or who contribute nothing to our state society. In addition, over the last twenty years, they have run a huge number of tax paying businesses out of this state because of unreasonable burdens on those companies with taxes (Guess where the burden has landed!!).

I don't mean to get on a political soap box here, but more taxpayers are leaving our state than are coming into it. Statistics show that California population is increasing but, more non-tax payers are entering than anyone else.

My advice - don't move here. Visit and enjoy our weather and fine riding but, unless you have more discretionary income that you can spend, don't move here. I am amost 70 years old and am a native of this state. I do remember when this was truly the "Golden State". It is no longer the "Golden State". I would have a moving van in my driveway tomorrow morning if my wife would say "OK" and I would be headed out of California.

Of course, the above is just my humble opine so take it for whatever it is worth.

Hope this helps.

Norm S

You forgot to mention the abysmal condition of our roads. Some of them in the Bay Area will knock out your teeth and collapse the spine. As you say, it ain't going to get better soon. I still love this place, though. Year-round riding. Fantastic weather except when the fog moves in and even that's not bad when everybody else is baking in 90-degree heat. Every kind of riding from cruising along the coast with giant waves crashing on the rocks to rolling hills, desert-like areas and snow-capped mountains -- all within a day's ride. I've lived here for 16 years and I still get impressed with the beauty of this place every time I ride somewhere.
