Hello there,

I need your help and advice.

I updgraded my FXLRS 2021 114 with a Fuel Moto M8 128" Piston & Cylinder 10.75:1 Big Bore Kit.
Added a Wood M8 22XE cam, S&S Quickees, S&S tappets holders, Feuling tappets, S&S piston cooling jets, S&S camplate and S&S Oil pump. A nice present to me after a hard working year.

I have this noise in the top end and it annoys me like hell :banghead:

Pushrods are set with 3 and 1/2 turns (tried 4 turns, 4 turns and 3 flats : no change).
Tappets were swap with new CompCams for test : no change.
Head cover were removed to check loosen bold or nut : nothing found.

Thanks in avdvance

Could it be throttle body clack?
Does it change when the throttle is twisted?

Take the air cleaner off and have a listen.

Was it clayed?, wonder if the piston is barely making contact with the head.

The throttle body is correctly tight. No move. No noise.

Already done : only the shht-shht-shht-shht-shht from air input while idle.
I will test to rev a little then listen.

This is a clue. If nothing change I will follow this way.

What Hoss is referring to is the throttle blade rattling at idle. Nothing will appear loose, it's just a characteristic of some combinations that cause the throttle blade to "rattle" a little.

My first thought was it sounded kind of like a compensator. I just installed a CR480 cam, which has a choppy idle characteristic. This is causing the come to rattle a little. It stops immediately off idle, but it is audible. Does your noise change with throttle input?

The noise follows the engine RPM en is more important in charge. I replaced the compensator ramp by a TTS one.

You can use a mechanics stethoscope to try and pinpoint the source.

Was the stack height measured when you installed it?

Nope. Just replaced the ramp. Do you have a link or procedure for this ?

Are you thinking it's in the compensator area?  Your video sounds like it's in the top of the engine.

JSD

Did you check squish? Piston to head clearance

It's hard to tell from a video where the noise is coming from. I'm not saying it is the compensator, but the sound is similar.

Smitfits

I'm not a fan of Qwickee Pushrods. In my 117" TC motor they were the cause of my tics. I'd change those out for a better semi solid push rods one that has to be put in from the top. Does S&S have a spec on oil pressure for the relief on their cam plate and when it reseats?

Listen with a stethoscope, or a long screwdriver pressed to your ear. You can usually narrow down where the sound is coming from with this method. If it seems to be near the top of a pushrod, the inside of the top tube may need clearanced slightly with a 5/8" drill. The pushrod would have a scuff mark around it where it contacts the tube if this is the case. Good luck!

It's not rocker to valve clearance is it? Just by design that's a possibility, Harley make an adjustable rocker if that is any help.
Just because its said don't make it so
