How tough is it to put a 96"TC Touring 6 speed set up with primaries etc in an older 88"TC Touring frame? Not asking for a friend  :SM:

The entire drive train from an 07-16 (96,103,110) touring will fit in an 99-06 touring frame :) Will have to forgo the FBW tb.
I do not believe the 5 speed engines & primaries will bolt up with 6 speed trans.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

I am very confident that you are correct.

I have also heard that the newer transmission works much better than the 07-09 but the compensator in the newer sucks.

I  assume the cable throttle body will match up?

You just have to use late intake flanges, but I think you know about them already. The TB width will work with the 96".

If the bike has a 5 speed already, you might want to look at 6 into 5 updates. Baker, Jims, and Ultima. SE is no longer available.

I think Baker has stopped making the 6 speed gear set for the 5 speed case.

I know they stopped the OD6 wide ratio (3.20 low), but was unaware of them stopping the close ratio (2.94 low). They also have a DD6. I know nothing about that.

Guys he's looking to swap an entire six speed drivetrain into an earlier five speed frame. He's not looking for a six speed for his five speed case.

One thing I might suggest to research is if there is any difference in the swingarm pivot shaft that goes through the transmission case. I recall that some years there was a smaller diameter shaft, but don't recall when that was.

I took a quick look and 2002 thru 2010 Twin Cam touring uses the same pivot shaft. And the six speed case is the same part number 2007 thru 2013.

I added the rear fork part number. They're the same 2002 thru 2008. 2009 was the new frame and a differently designed rear fork.

I would say that everything will fit.

Five speed
47505-02 SHAFT, REAR FORK - 2002 thru 2006 Touring
(Five Speed Case)
47549-02A REAR FORK - 2002 thru 2006 Touring

Six Speed
47505-02 SHAFT, REAR FORK - 2007 thru 2010 Touring
34719-07B TRANSMISSION CASE SUBSASSEMBLY (BLACK) - 2007 thru 2013 Touring
47549-02A REAR FORK - 2007 thru 2008 Touring

Thanks Ohio. That research was on my short list as there seem to be numerous power plants available from wrecker/parting out people lately at pretty good prices. One more exploratory trip into the '02 and it will be time to make a decision. Many later Twinkies out there too...
