I am redoing the harness an my 78 1/2 FXS and was wondering do i need to have the small white jumper wire from the start button to the run / off switch? Doesn't the key switch take care of the run / off?
This is my first attempt at rewiring. Thanks in advance.

You need the jumper for the kill switch on bar, it kill ingnition and starter. I have a 78 FXS that I bought off showroom floor brand new.

I remember a jumper came on the replacement dash switch for my 76 FLH. It made the headlights come on in either position, a lawyer thing. I do run with headlights on but I like choices so I removed it.   What a rebel.

Being able to keep the headlight off while starting helps it turn over just a little better.

The OP is asking about wiring on the right hand control switches, not the ignition switch.

Marnat3 Yes, you need the white jumper wire that goes from the run/stop switch to the start switch.

That White jumper wire provides power to the start switch (only when the run/stop switch is in the on position).

Wire it just like in the wiring diagram.
