I have the old flat bar motion pro tool, and cut down Allen from Evo days.  Probably due for an upgrade.

Others are all correct... I "believe" the broken one is correct and only looks upside down from the picture perspective with the broken spring.

I am waiting for the new spring and valve spring tool I ordered to arrive. I'll remove the broken spring and get a better look then...

I didn't mentiion this tool because you had to remover the head to service the base gasket problem.  It may be too late (or this is what you ordered) but I thought I would share this info anyway.  The "Nub Tool" comes equipped with all you need and works so slick you will be shocked.  Use it once and it absolutely pays for itself and cuts the time down by probably 80 - 90% by not having to remove the head to change valve springs or seals.  My initial experience was so good that I purchased a couple more for close friends.

At one time all the fuelmoto heads were ported by Ward.

I don't need a lot of convincing to buy a tool... I like tools..  :SM:

I have that tool saved in my "list of tools to buy when needed"....  I read about it here.

Since, as you mentioned, I needed to remove the head for the base gasket, I didn't get that tool this time...  But I noticed it on my list when I looked for a valve spring tool... I had saved the info on the "Valve Spring Compressor by Motion Pro" for a situation like this...

It should get here in a day or two...

Hmmmmm, you may decide to freshen up the valve seals including the front head that you aren't removing.   :fish: :SM:

Yeah, I've been known to fix something until it's broken... I'm trying to avoid that.  :embarrassed:

I think I'll let the seals be...

HOWEVER, it would be a reason to buy that "NUB Tool"....  :nix:

You're not helping kd....  :banghead:

I thought that everyone had a Nub Tool.   :nix:

And maybe replace the beehives with double springs.    :potstir:

Once the base gasket is dealt with, I'm thinking morning coffee in hand, tunes on, Nub Tool, double springs, good seals, reassembled, valves adjusted and fired up in maybe 6 hrs? Probably including a sandwich break.  How's that fur painting a picture?  :fish:  :SM:

Yur welcome

FWIW....

I pulled the old, broken spring today.

It was installed correctly, it was just the broken spring and pic perspective that made it look installed upside down..

Now waiting on the new spring...    :pop:

JSD

I would have sworn it was upside down.

It sure looked like it in that pic...  It didn't in person, must have been the pic perspective...

Here is the new one and broken one side by side...

And this is the reason, I won't recommend, or use "Beehive" springs, without the customer signing a release.

As said dual springs   .  Break a spring, it clatters, open it up and change the set. (if you have a Nub Tool  )  No valves dropping, exploding parts, and big expense.

Just to give this closure....

Based on all the advice and information from the this forum, I was able to get my 124" engine apart, back together, and running well.

Recap:

I had a leaky cylinder base gasket, but couldn't get the rocker arms out of the rocker base cover due to very limited room. With input from here on how it could be done.. success!

When finally apart, I found a broken valve spring. With input from here I got the spring, a tool, and did it myself... success!

I screwed up a head dowel and wanted new o-rings on the others. With input from here, I got the right parts and some advice.... success!

Yesterday I finally got it all back together and started it up....  Success!  Well, after I remembered to reconnect the fuel pump under the seat..  :emoGroan:

Today I went for a 40 mile test drive, after all it's 77° and sunny here...  :potstir:

No leaks, and it ran great. Tomorrow I go for about a 180 mile ride with a few friends..

For now, I'm gonna call this a success...

AND, I didn't have to buy the Nub Tool  :baby:

Thanks to all who offered assistance..

Ive used this mini set for years. This is my second one. It's a very strong robust design and has finger holders for even tighter spaces. I never use BeeHives either. That 2nd chance is priceless. For the Record the Nub does work great on and off the bike. Now if I can find an easier way to get the valves to release off seats....

I've never met anyone to dumb to get it but many to smart.

HighLiner

Definitely don't give that ratchet set away do they?

Wookie3011

It's pricey and the backdrag is not greatest but for areas you can't get with anything else? It's great.

A friend got a similar set from Menards (MasterForce?) that was not too pricey.
