Hi,
I was just checking out the Wood Performance website here;

...and in a big red box the text...

...so...
I have purchased S&S lifter guides for my 114, along with S&S premium lifters, along with other bits and pieces.

Question - Will the S&S lifter guides be ok with the Wood 22XE cam?

My gut tells me it'll be ok, but my brain is saying "can't you read dummy??"

Thanks
Pauly

The bushed lifters have a problem with the S&S guides.
Roller bearing lifters don't have that problem.

Thanks Larry,
So I can breathe again ;-)

The weird part is, it doesn't mention the lifters at all. It refers to the "camshaft".

I made the assumption (yeah I know), that some after market lifter guides may sit a tad higher than the standard ones, and some of the woods cams may have had a slightly lower base circle (or a mixture of the two). If this was the case, a lifter may have been able to drop low enough to clear the lifter guide and cause havoc. I don't want havoc!

Oh and merry Christmas!

Thanks
Pauly

Larry, what's the issue with the bushed lifters? Something in the outer bodies design?

wfolarry

They need the extra clearance that the stock lifter guide provides.

Larry,
I bought the 2313SE from you a couple year back, and installed the S&S lifter cuffs. I have had no issues, however, does that lifter fall under the "S&S Guide" issue? I run a Woods 22X (not E or D) cam.

Fueling is coming out with some new lifter cuffs that are made out of the same material as their chain tensioner pads, supposed to stop scoring that can happen with the S&S cuffs, but an improvement over the stock cuffs.

No. The ones that don't have the needle bearings have the problem.
You're fine.

Scoring the s&s cuffs? Please tell me more. Ie symptoms, causes, and frequency!
Thanks

I bet the majority of issues with the lifter cuffs, is that the installer does not take the time, or screws up the process, to set the clearance with a the feeler gauge, as outlined in the instructions.

I saw a video on that very subject somewhere. Video showed you needed the feeler gauge in place while torquing to keep the cuff from rotating ever so slightly. His test was to pull the lifters up with a magnet. When released the lifter should slide back into place on its' own. If it doesn't cuff has twisted.
