Can anyone tell me about the 11 "critical fasteners" that are supposed to be checked at 1,000 and 5,000 miles buy the Harley dealer?

verson22

2 of them are the snaps on a 'biker' wallet! :hyst:

I have no idea, not having heard of this before and I don't use the dealerships for much except parts.

But it's an interesting question in and of itself....so if I had to conjure up 11 critical fastners in order of priority I would suggest:

Front axle shaft/nut /pinch bolt
Rear axle shaft/nut
Dog bone top clamp
Dog bone lower nuts
Triple Tree shaft/nut
Front caliper/s fastners
Rear caliper fasteners
Swing arm pivot points
Rear shock bolts
Engine mounts
Tranny mounts

Hard to priortize some of these cause who really needs rear brakes if your swing arm falls off but I figured I would give it a shot off the top of my head. Lot more stuff as well I wouldn't want falling off...that's why I got a big bottle of "old blue" #242 locktite kicking around the shop. That old softail I have has been sticking together pretty good for the last few years.

Just killing time,

It's in the SM, Section 1: Maintenance, typically toward the end.

For a 2004 Dyna it's on Page 1-53

For a 2006 Softail it's on Page 1-56

For a 2007 FLT it's on Page 1-31, the 2 pages can be found =>  2007_FLT_Critical_Fasteners

Joke all you want-I assume you PAY someone else to do your service work- it IS a legit question! Good to know and print out a list along with service steps everytime you do the service work!

Sheeeit,

I was trying to answer this post in a serious way....what a bunch of clowns.

Anyway Katfish my 88 Heritage has a set of risers from the triple tree to the handle bars with a clamp up top for the handle bars and nuts down in the triple tree. Not sure if the terms I used are ooofishal but I figured they sounded pretty good.

Now I gotta go look at the posted manual items and see how I scored.

Hey,

I did pretty darn good comparing my home made list for a 88 to a HD list for a 07. Not to bad for a basement mechanic.

OK, all you fellers good back to you skylarkin. :pop:
