Seein I can't find a ignition switch for my 89 Electra glide I was wondering if a 93 one would work ( I think they are still available). From what I understand I know the fork lock won't work but was wondering if everything else will work ok. Or do you know any other switch that might work in place of the original?

# 74 is the switch assembly in the diagram

Caper that is the switch in the pic. The problem is it seems there is none around, so I was wondering what other years might work. Thanks hawwk

If your looking for the switch that's mounted in the fairing then you should be able to use any up to 95 and your locking system will work, it's a P.I.A. to adjust.
In 96 the new fairing style and switch was changed.
I'm thinking all the pre 95's are obsolete, but you may find one on e-bay.  I had a couple laying around but have since moved and not sure where they are, if I find them you can have one for shipping.

I haven't looked for a switch in a while.  I know that the knob (where the key goes) has been obsolete for a while, but the switch was still available.  Look at V-Twin manufacturing.  They seem to have much more "old" stuff and even have N.O.S. Harley OEM parts.  The 1996 and later wont work at all for you as the mounting system and fork lock are so different that it would be more of a hassle than it's worth.  Do you have an auto electrician nearby?  Maybe they could open up the lock and see what the deal is?  Who rebuilds the ignition switches on those old Resto-cars -- no not Rusto, resto (like Jay Leno)?

Sorry, I looked and can't find those ignition switches. They have been lost or thrown away, ex wife in all probability.
