Why don't I see any writings about S&S Carbs on Twin Cams?
(Performance carb and can still use cruise control)

I have an S&S Super E on a 2002 Road King with 33,000 miles and absolutely love the carb. No problems once it was jetted. Simple to work on too, that is if it ever requires rebuilding...

Maybe because there is so much efi out there now?

a lot of EFI and a lot of recent year Mikuni fans but the S&S works and is simple and if you can't make an S&S work then you probably can't make any carb work. One of the big overlooked changes to make to an S&S carb is to go to a larger air bleed as it helps responce and mileage in almost every case.

The S&S G carb on my 103 bagger is very responsive & I can get 40mpg on the hiway if I run it sanely at or below 70mph and that's with my 3.37 final. The motor is no slouch, dynod at 115/115, very pleased with the S&S G carb. It dialed in a nice flat AFR line on the dyno with minimal tuning effort, FWIRC Brian sharing with me from Valley, they built & broke the motor in for me on their 250I, a great job they did also...

On a side note, I just purchased the adaptor & HD cruise control module, but have not installed it yet. I'm still not riding or doing much of anything like working on the bike yet…still fighting with this fricken shoulder & herniated disks, just started physical therapy :crook:

Because, this is Mikuni country :teeth:

I think S&S are great carbs. Before EFI, if you walked down main street in Sturgis, Daytona, Laconia, 8 of 10 bikes had S&S carbs.

Nothing wrong with an S&S.   It's just older technology.   Only two circuits,  low speed and then high speed jets.   Doesn't have intermediate jetting like a Mikuni or CV and therefore makes tuning for best throttle transition, fuel mix, and power from low throttle to WOT a little difficult.   Some use the "Power Jet" to compensate.   Advantage is fewer fuel metering circuits, fewer parts, and possibley more reliable.  Also USA made.
Having said that I prefer the Mikuni.

I run a G for road use and a D for track. Admittedly they are on an S&S T124" motor but they are very easy to look after. Yes they are a bit archaic, but they do the job well.

Popping or spitting on hard acceleration usually indicates a lean condition and you should try going up a size on the intermediate (I would start with a 31, test and go up another size if that doesn't help) and readjust idle mixture screw. Leave the main jet where it is-after you correct the acceleration popping issue, you could go up to a 76 main if you regularly twist the throttle hard and like to spin it up.
Your intermediate jet provides most of your fuel for most of around the town, cruising, or highway, so concentrate changes here but don't go too big as this could affect gas mileage and also cause a rich condition. I like to change plugs when I make a change as well so that I am testing from a clean point of reference.
Use you plugs as a reference only and not exclusivley for tuning as fuel, type of plug, and other factors can affect the color of the plugs.

As for the S&S carbs on Twin Cams, I run 2 G's on my FXR Twin Cam and love em'. Eventually, I will go to FI but since I have these puppies dialed in so nice now, I can't see any advantages for me on this set up I have to switch to FI now.
