I wonder if someone has any good, or bad info on the Andrews 54G gear drive set for a 2009 Heritage stock 96",SuperTrapp Super meg, and a Download. ( I realize the bike may need to get tuned after this. ) Any one done this or like builds yet ?

Not quite what you are asking but my bike is in the shop right now . I'm doing BigBore 103 with BigBoyz heads (I'm certain Deweys Heads are every bit as good) and the Andrews 54H cams. This is with Bubs7 true duals. I get it back Monday and will have it tuned later in the week.. Dewey knows more than I ever could but I did a good bit of research on the 4 degrees advance and the gear drive. The word "pinging" came up a lot with the 4 degrees. My sources were unknown forum members and I did talk to Andrews also. Hardly anyone uses the gear drive and I talked to some people who should know and they say it isn't needed on the newer bikes. I would be curious as to what Deweys thoughts are regarding a 10 to 1 compression ratio and running the 54 cams. Maybe the 4 degrees would  work better with stock compression.

You bring up good points but he is at 96" you are at 103"
You are at 10/1 with stock heads and he is at 9.4/1. The 54 will run there (96") but will be happier with the $40 dollar advance gear.

I would not go with gears if you have a TC96, as the stock roller-chain configuration is quite good IMO.  Gears will increase noise and price.  The 54H's will require high-lift valve springs, although they are only .05" higher lift than HD SE255's that don't require them.  Anyone know if these will work with stock beehive springs?

Not trying to hijack this thread but...

Don,
Funny you mentioned the +4* advance. I'm thinking about a +4* advance key for my WT TC-4g's to get my compression up. (Currently 175 ccp) Do you think with my .260 duration it would be a mistake. By the way, I'm supposed to get my parts back tomorrow.

Easy enough to try.
Run stock springs with the 54 cams.

Don,

What is your thoughts on a 2007 ultra with a 350 pound rider in Texas (heat). I am looking at a 103 w/Kuryakyn flat tops with the raised height, stock heads, D&D Fat Cat, Power Commander? I am thinking the 54's for this set up. Thanks and meaning to hijack the thread.
