GoFast.....

I saw on my Who's going to Sturgis thread that we have some people that are going to Sturgis for the first time. The Blackhills of South Dakota Has some of the most beautiful rides in America. Sturgis sits at the base of these hills with little towns all over in the Blackhills. In the next week or so lets tell our favorite ride so those who have never gone can enjoy them.

I am a little partial to the ride from Hill City to Rushmore (Hwy 244) out the east end and hit Hwy 16 to the SE side of Custer State Park, then hit the town of Custer for a cold one!  The views of the Rushmore faces through the tunnels in the park are famous, but I still enjoy them.  Nice and slow run, very enjoyable.

My favorite is Spearfish canyon.  Go from Spearfish to Deadwood.  Wind around up and down the canyon.  Watch out for deer.

not a ride but you have to go to at least one concert at the
buffalo Chip.    on the Spearfish canyon ride.

I agree with GoFast....best riding in the US.  We map out six rides every year...usually our group is between 8 and 14 people.  Many of the routes continue from year to year, (Badlands on Tuesday for sunrise, Hulett for np Wednesday, etc.) but we try to change them up a little and also try to find new places and/or bars each year.  I love that area of the country...

Here's one that might not be well known.

Take US 212 NW from Belle Fourche to Alzada, MT. Stop in at the Stoneville Saloon for a cold one, great little biker bar, saw dust floors and all.

The Stoneville is about a mile or so past the turn off so backtrack to Hwy 112 and follow it South straight into Hulett.

The ride from Belle Fourche to Alzada is prairie but the ride from Alzada to Hulett is beautiful, easy curves cruising through the foothills of the Black Hills with Devils Tower on the horizon from time to time.

I am real partial to the Needles Highway and the Old Iron Highway. Worth the cost of entry into Custer Park for the ride and the views. The ride to Devil's Tower is great also and for any first timer's these are the two rides I reccommend most but I can't think of any in the Black Hills that are bad and my wife and I have been all over the Hills. It is one of our favorite vacation destinations with or without the bikes.

intersting ride is 59 north from Gillette, wy into MT. not the pretiest, not the curviest but when you get to the end in MT take a left, go about 1/2 mile. very intersting!

The badlands loop is great going out #44 from Rapid City then hook onto #377 and NW on #240 - do it early in the day!!!  The ride through Nemo from Rapid City to either Deadwood or taking the Vanocker Canyon to Sturgis is also one of our favourite rides.  Nice to go down south to Custer after seeing Crazy Horse Memorial and head west on 16.  The Jewel Cave is very cool if you have the time.  Continue west to Newcastle and nead north on #85 to Cheyenne Crossing for a cold one.  Nice to cruise on the open road if you've been in the congestion for a couple of days.  Run the #14A down to Spearfish - some good restaurants and fun bars - we stay in Spearfish every year.  Iron Mtn. Rd. etc. in the Custer park area are all great but very busy except in the early morning.  Ride safe - "be alert - be alive".

Some of my favorite gathering spots/watering holes.......Stone House Saloon in Belle Fourche, The World's Smallest Saloon off of I90 on I think exit 78, Longhorn in Scenic, Bar on highway 44 near Interior, and the bar in Nemo.....many more, but some of my favorites.

On2Wheels

Ditto on the Badlands loop (#44 from Rapid City to #377 to #240) - but do it on a clear night with a full moon (Aug. 5th).  Very surreal.  Needles Hwy. and Iron Mountain Rd. at night is also a rush, just watch out for the big critters.

deathwish

Ride all the roads! But my favorite resting spot is Rochford!!

GoFast.....

I have got alot of favorites, One that is great is as you go out of Keystone like you are going to the faces. On the left before you get to the faces is a little road 16a. You take a left and it takes you up thru a split road single file and then through two one way tunnels. As you look back through the tunnels there is a perfect view of the faces through the tunnel that is one of the greatest Photo shots in America.

All of the rides in the Black Hills are great. One of my favorite rides is from Dalton GA to Sturgis SD. A not so favorite but still up there on the list in the one from Sturgis SD to Dalton GA.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

They're all good, but my two favorites have to be Nemo Road and Spearfish Canyon.
