'90 fxstc softail.  The battery strap broke, it's rubber, p/n 66105-77.  There doesn't seem to be enough room between the battery box and the oil tank to get the back portion of the strap through to attach it on the "hook".  Does anyone know how to do it?  Thanks very much for your help.

It's a pain in the ass on my 88....usually need to rub some skin off my knuckles to get it done.

I pull as much strain as I can on the strap from the hooked side and hold this stretched section against the battery and then have enough slack in the remaining section to go fishing for the hook down by the other side of the battery.

Not the best bit of engineering in the world. I have thought about making up a "slim jim" kind of tool to push the strap down there but have never gotten around to that point....figure the time involved is worth more than a layer of skin off my knuckles I guess.

Might look at the 2 peice strap that hooks together on top of the battery.

Ah HAH,

Someone has already solved the problem.......haven't seen that before but will keep my eye out for one or conjure one up myself. Good idea by the sound of it.
