A couple of months back, my trap door [ trans gear set]  came loose on my 04 95" Hot Rod Bagger. One of the four bolts was missing and the other three were fairley loose. Pulled exhaust system off  replaced missing bolt, locktite on  all bolts and torqued to spec. Leak stoped,  on the trapp door, but shortley there after, it started dumping oddles of Redline  shockproof trans oil after every ride! I tore down  the bike, primary, clutch, compensator sproket, primary chain & ajuster, inner and outter primary. Discovered the problem to be the main gear shaft seal and possibley the bearing. I havent pulled the drive gear off because I dont have the speciality tools needed to go further. The shaft has a lot  [32/100 0r 1/16" play in any direction. Quotes have been 250.00 to 700.00 for parts & labor to pull gearset & fix, rebuild kit etc. I am not positive yet , untill I get the drive gear off how bad the damage is or isnt, but if i am going to spend 500.00 or more i would like to install a inexpensive  [rivera or ultima ] 6 speed gear set. Any sugestions ? Bike puts out 113 TQ & 108 Hp to the rear, 3:37 gearing, sometimeS I ride normal and sometimes I hammer it.  Is it possible to rebuild and convert the 5harley 5 speed gear set to 6 speed overdrive with out spending a fortune?

You got to watch that Redline causes the inner needle bearings to walk..

How can a certain brand of oil cause the bearings to walk? I have been told that is a common problem , reguardless of what type of oil you use. If the bearing walked, which I think it did because of the play in the shaft, how do you fix it?

Bluescat, if you need the right tools for the job then go to Georges Garage on the web. George has all the right tools for the job and they are a lot less than Jims and at least as good quality. I have used my cam and tranny tools many, many times with no problems and even with the price of the tools it's still less than having a dealer do the work. Now you own the tools and after doing your own you will also be able to help others down the road and maybe absorb some or all the cost of the original tool price. It's not that diffacult of a job but the correct tools are important. Spidey.
You can ride my hoss, Ride my woman but don't ever ride my bike.
