going to purchase a carbon fiber helmet.  polo style or regular?

any opinion.

will air get under the polo and lift it?

My wife has the ACC polo style, DOT rated. Loves it. As for catching air, don't know. Run a windsheild? I would think it is no worse than my SEER with the visor and I really do not get an uplift issue with it properly adjusted. I run a windsheild.

Ya, they will do that. I think it has a lot to do with the securing system. The ACC's have a system similar to most pudding buckets, simple yoke strap down around the ears and singled up under the chin. My SEER has a similar setup, however it also has an adjustable strap that goes under and around the back of your head and I think that is what solves the uplift issue. I will ask a friend of mine, he had to wear my wifes ACC the other day to get his bike home after I worked on it. See what he has to say. Has a 02 Duece with a low sheild.

I think thats the ticket. My helmet is an old 1966 cop helmet with completely covered ears that goes around the back of the neck. Visor isn't a huge problem with it.

My ACC Polo doesn't lift up at all.  I wear it with the visor pulled down low to keep the sun out of my eyes.  No windshield.  It's the only half-helmet I've had that didn't try and lift off my head.  Of course the aerodynamics are different for all models of bikes so what works for me may not work for everyone.

A few years back I had a polo style helmet that I used to ride on my Softail. I didn't like it to much after I bought it, so I just turned it around. I bought a new helmet on Main St  in Daytona one year and left the polo helmet on top of a trash can at the hotel in case someone else wanted it. Might be OK With a windshield but without one it wasn't right for me.

Sam - he said he had no lift issue at all, but he does with his pudding bucket.

There are sooo many factors that can cause a helmet to lift or not that it's probably almost impossible to predict what it will do.  Your best bet is to see if you can find one to try.  All these things affect if a helmet will lift or not:

1) Shape of your head and how well the helmet matches that
2) Windshield or no windshield
3) Rider height
4) Model of bike (different aerodynamics)
5) Handlebars (the position of your arms affects how the air moves around you)
6) etc.

I guess whatever style you like...FWIW though, I have the regular ACC and it's the nicest helmet in the wind I've used so far, nice and light too.

Craig  :agree: On my RK If I put my feet out on the crash bar pegs the Aerodynamics on what is hitting my chest and face is changed dramatically. The wind rides rite up my legs and causes a updraft which wants to lift my half helmet up. That's one of the reasons I went to a 3/4 helmet for a super slab higher speed riding. There's other reasons to but that was certainly one of them.
