after inner and outter primary  are removed , is the main drive shaft suposed to have a little play in it[ side to side , or up ian down] ??????   I know it rides in the roller bearing in the inner primary. Hoping I dont need a rebuild on the trans!

No there should not be any noticable play in any direction. If that is the case then you most likely have bad bearings on the main drive gear. If so then you will need to pull the gear cassett and the main gear and replace those bearings, there are two in there. I can get you the correct part numbers for them and the last ones I did I got from Charlies Harley, formerly Benjys and I believe they were something like 17 bucks each plus shipping. Bear in mind that when you do pull the main gear you will also need to replace the main bearing, seal, quad seal and you may as well just go through the whole tranny at that point since you will already have it out. It would be advisable to also look at the trap dor bearings as well. These all require the special tools from the inner bearing race puller/installer, main bearing and seal installer, main drive gear bearing and seal installer and so on as well as the trap door puller. I got all my speciality tools from Georges Garage. He has very good tools at a fraction of the cost of Jims and they are as good in not better than the Jim's tools and they all come with a lifetime warranty. He does very fast shipping and is a good man to work with and is a wealth of info as well. He's an old school biker himself and has some good info when you do get to talk to him. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Spidey.
