Abby OUCH - hate to see you burn fuel on I-25 when you missed a wonderful route from Woodland Park that spills out onto US285 up above Conifer. Next time check it out!

That was the original plan, but I had something going on that day that I had to get back for. I did that route last year on my way out of town heading over to Montrose and subsequently Ouray. I'm signed up to teach a class for Iron Buffalo in Rifle in a few weeks. I'm really hoping people sign up so it doesn't get canceled. I'd like to leave there and head down to Telluride and check out Mesa Verde.

Abby you seem to enjoy more that 'riding only'.

If some of the most awesome scenery on earth is appealing.........see if you can get up to Upper Marvine Lake (where my dearly departed Dad's ashes are scattered)
No way up that canyon except on foot or on horseback. No motors allowed - not even a chainsaw - if a dead fall blocks the trail it's hand power and a crosscut saw.
When you're out in Rifle you'll be fairly close 'as the crow flies'. But up on the flattops wilderness "you can't get there from here"!

I-70 west to Rifle - then north to Meeker - then back east to Buford
We overnighted in a cabin close to Buford and met a real cowboy guide the next morning for the trek up to Marvine Lake (water surface of the upper lake is right at 10,000 feet)
You can only go up yonder in July and August. It's a full day horseback ride up and back down
We saw Aspens 3 - 4 feet thick with initials carved in them from the 1920s & '30s - we even saw 4 or 5 different colors of Columbine flowers.

I shot a large 7 frame composite photo of the view from the spot where my Pop's ashes are scattered but I've never figured out how to scan the whole 'mural' to post it - it's in a custom frame 60 x 15 inches and darn near too heavy to hang on the wall.

anyways just a passing thought.................

hey glad you had a good safe ride...
like reading the stuff, just like being there

well except for the stinky shower part

I didn't write the rest of that story. When we were at breakfast, one of the guys brought it up. I told him I'd started to warn him when I saw him heading into the shower but decided that, "Good morning! The showers stink!" wasn't a great way to start the day.  :hyst:
