I'm like Spidey. I don't download songs. I burn songs from my record collection (a few thousand) and CD collection. I just burn at normal speed and get about an hours worth on a CD, at which time I'm ready for a pit stop anyway. Then I put in a new CD. I have a H-D back up mp3 player in case I run out of tunes before I stop. IPods have their place, but not in a car or bike, in MY opinion for various reasons that only matter to me. I like Nero 9 for burning.

I reviewed this thread quickly - so if I missed that all this is already posted - oops...   :bf:

Chose DATA as the format style (or select 'Open writeable CD folder using Windows Explorer' in the "What do you want Windows to do" dialog box).

The number of mp3 files you can fit on the disk will depend on the bitrate (I use 128 - get more files on the disk and my pipes cover any loss in crispness anyway).

MP3GAIN is super simple and solves the roller coaster voulme issue for sure.

And this is the part I didn't see anywhere else - doesn't make sense, but use CD-RW (as opposed to CD-R) - CD-R the results were a crap shoot, mostly not working - with CD-RW, never had a problem.

Also make sure the radio has the latest firmware (8.19.0 is still the latest offered on the website - anybody with a '09 or '10, can you check your HK radio to see if that's still what's used... checking procedure below)

Checking your current software version:

1.  Turn your radio on and select FM mode.

2.  Turn the ignition key switch to OFF.

3.  Press and hold any two soft keys (the numbered buttons on the face of your radio, see Figure 1) and then turn the ignition key switch to ACCESS.

4.  Continue to press the soft keys until "Diag Test" is displayed in the middle of the screen (see Figure 2).

5.  Press soft key 4, labeled "Software."

The software version number is listed twice and is preceded by the letter "v," and should be 8.19.0 - if not you should get the software update:

(after posting the link above doesn't seem to be 'whole', i.e. only part of it is highlighted when you mouse over it, but it seems to work)

The instructions for downloading and installing the update are at this link as well - however, in the instructions it says to use a CD-R or CD-RW - take it from me, use the CD-RW --- CD-R locked up the radio on me once.

Also - be sure the two files they refer to are burned onto the CD-RW as files - i.e. NOT in a folder, needs to be at root level of the CD-RW or the radio may not (won't) find them - yeah, also from experience

:sswim:

Hope this helps...

Was directed to this thread from a current one.  Welcome to the resurrection!

There's something about the ID3 tags in the files, and I haven't been able to put my finger on it yet.  The player likes some and not others.  There are several versions of ID3 tags now, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4.  Does anybody have a definitive answer which specific ID3 tag version we should use for the bike?

If the player doesn't like the tag, the song might not show up on the player.  I've narrowed the problem down to either the version of the tag and/or having apostrophes (maybe other punctuation?) in any of the tag information.  Is there a technical paper available anywhere covering what standards the HK players support and what limitations there might be?
