best kids helmet

I am wondering what people have used for a kids helmet.  My daughter is getting of age where I would think about a little trip around town, not sure what the helmet opinions are.

Also what age did you let your kid start riding.  I was around 5 on my dads xlch riding on the front gastank with my orange metalflake helmet, good times, now I am sure child welfare would be all over that.

We started packing our twins when they were old enough to reach the passenger pegs on our bikes.  Say 6 or 7ish.  By the time they were 9 they were doing 200 mile days with us.  They rode with us until they were in 8th or 9th grade before they got too cool to be seen on the back of Mom or Dad's bike.
We used various kids sized 3/4 helmets.

Our grandkids wanted to ride early, but told them they'd have to wait until I couldn't pull their hands off the grab rails on the EG.  Once they can hold on pretty well it's the drivers responsibility to not hit anything that would cause them to NEED to hold on tight.

I put my kids in a full face helmet once they could reach the floorboards. I think they were about 8.

Check a bike shop that caters to the motocross crowd which include lots of youthful riders.  They'll cater to the small sizes and be able to guide you to a good safe choice.

I think HJC put's out a nice helmet for the money.  As far as what age, I would say that depends on your area,and how bad the kid wants to ride.

I hit the jap bike stores to get kids helmets.  Don't remember what brand (3/4 open face) I bought the first time.  Most recently bought a kids HJC CL33 with visor (that's what I use and grandson wanted one just like mine).  It fits good and visor protects from wind.  Not sure if HJC still makes the CL33 model.  I think they have replaced with a "new improved/more expensive" model......
