I've been running a UNI UN-3413 foam filter and it is about worn out from cleaning and will need to be replaced. I tried a K&N for about 200 miles and didn't get very good results. What are some other options?

I am running a Super E on my 88 Heritage as well. Just ran it with a no name peice of foam for awhile as that is what it came with. When I fiddled with the carb one winter I thought what was on there was kind of chintzy so put on a new "no name" peice of K&N look alike foam. Didn't really notice any difference except the old item didn't really cover the whole intake completely. I have never been one to go overboard on the air filtering issue....I know that the more crap that goes through the mill the quicker it will wear out but I run this thing in town and on the highway....the only dust it sees is pollen so I don't put a lot of dollars into filters.

What did you mean when you said you didn't get good results......like no noticeble power increase?....maybe difficult to measure that by seat of your pants....likley need a dyno to measure the advantage if any to a filter change.

Just my .02,

When I installed a K & N element years ago in my E on my shovel, I felt that I coud tell a difference in the performance. Just my thoughts.

I noticed no difference in performance with the K&N and the fuel mileage went down about 4mpg. I gave the filter to a friend whose Big Dog had a totally clogged paper filter yesterday and he didn't notice any seat of the pants difference on his 30 mile trip home. Dynos are good tools, but I don' need to pay for a pull to verify that my bike runs the same or worse.
I guess I should have stated that I'm looking for an option other than K&N.

I switched from the foam to a K&N element this spring on my Shovel ... cant see any big improvements... I'm going to switch to a CV this winter

I hear ya Lakerat,

I like to keep things simple myself.....I wasn't suggesting you should get it dynoed....just that that might be the only way to observe a diff. I can see a pipe/filter/cam change making a diff. that can be noticed just by driving but just a filter change....I can't see that. Unless of course the filter that came off was clogged with crap and the one going on was new.

But ya know, different bikes set up different ways....way to many variables to make a whole lot of definite statements that will apply to every machine....the only thing you can say for sure is that when their working good they are a hell of a good way to spend a few hours or a few days.

Go easy,
