My wife just bought a 2010 Outback with a flat six engine.  Also outstanding and manufactured entirely in the USA!

I almost bought a new Fusion until I found out it was assembled in Hermosillo, Mexico. Settled for a Totota Camry assembled in Kentucky.

It must be true,I read it on the internet.

Tarurus is built in Chicago

I've never liked the look of the Tarurus....until now. I hated the Ford aero look cars. First Ford I had was a 67 Mustang fastback last Ford I had was 73 Galaxie convertable...had that 1 month and gave it back and never had another Ford.
Might take a look at a couple of the new models now.

A friend of mine who's into cars (late model cars) says the latest cars from Ford are really good. No personal experience.

I wouldn't dismiss a car assembled in Mexico. My daughter's VW was put together there, and it seems to be holding up well so far.

I wasn't concerned that the quality of the car was lacking, I am more concerned about Americans having jobs so thay can make a decent living.   Be able to buy homes, raise and educate the kids and hopefully own a Harley someday. Jobs right now are the main reason this economy is still in the hole.

Either way you sent money overseas with the Fusion or the Camary

I'd have rather my money end up in Detroit than Tokyo...

  Absolutely!!!

Even if a Toyoyo or Samizuki is assembled here in the states - the profits still go back to the mother country.  Not only would I never buy a jap car, I will rarely even ride in one.   And at the rental counter at the airport - no imports for me there either.   I'll take a taxi or a shuttle and get a car somewhere else.

So what if the profits of foreign companies "go back"" to those countries.  What are our domestic companies doing with the money they get back in profit from cars built out of the US by foreign workers besides padding their golden parachutes and the stock holders.  WTF good is that to the American people who need a job!  I'll support any mfg'er regardless USA or otherwise that BUILDS factories IN THE USA putiing Americans to work.  I wouldn't buy a HD built outside the US either!   :wtf:

Bigs

First Jap car I bought was a 2002 Honda Accord V6 and more parts in it were American made than some Chrysler products. Friend rear ended it so I bought a 2004 Accord V6. No problems and no rattles. As for the VW's I've had to many problems with the Mexican ones. And the Ford Aerostar was the worst van you could buy...problems, problems, problems.

Harley's have enough foreign parts. I'm not sure if there are any American made accessories for the Harley except for a couple.

Hd06myway,

I am with you! For those who don't want the profits going to foreign countries, I would like to know what they fuel their bikes, cars and heat their homes with?

10-4 GOOD BUDDY, I want the money in my pocket, not in Detroit!

dte8dom

Every vhehicle I owned was american untill now. Bought a brand new chevy suv in 05 and its been one problem after the next. and I'm still fighting it. I used clunker money last month and got rid of our explorer (another pos) and bought my wife a Nissan. Its made in USA. Will never ever buy another GM again and maybe never any american car again. These foriegn cars are so much better and they are made here anyway. The profits do stay here by the way, they go in building more factories thus more jobs for us.

hotroadking

Find it odd that any USA resident would think that sending money overseas produces as many USA jobs that buying a domestic manufacturing company would produce if the money was spent here.

If you bought the USA products the USA manufacturers would have capital, reserves and initiatives to
increase plants and jobs in the USA, that is the way it works.  In other words for every toyota that is not bought and replaced with a Ford, you increase the jobs in the USA, do that in the thousands and the jobs increas in the thousands domestically.

Buying overseas companies products even if assembled here only puts a small portion of the purchase price into the USA workforce,  a $20K Toyota will put maybe $4K back into assembly, $1K into the Dealer. Lets presume a 50% domestic content, BTW thats 50% of cost not gross, so another $3 ,  Now we have $8K maybe in the USA

The remaining $12K goes back to Japan, paying japanese workers to make the other 50%, design, overhead, corporate executives, golden parachutes, stock incentives etc.  Mostly non Union jobs...

You're still paying for the bonus, executives, retirement, it's just of the Japanese Executives who spend money in....

Japan...

That's what happens when one side won't work with the other

Eventually the economics turns the tide and the company is forced to cut and run....

Always said they would shutter plants here when fully depreciated and no
longer feasible to upgrade due to union restrictions on automation..

HD is on track with York as well..

GaryD

I loved the repairs. It's a miracle what a can of black spray paint can do. :hyst:

Could that car have been a flood damaged car and sold that way??? Some of the corrosion doesn't look right.

Automation is here to stay no matter what we say. Get use to it. It's getting  jamed down our throats just like health care will.

Both American Honda and Toyota are located down the street from me (torrance,ca) If you think they dont put money back into this country and my community your nuts. They employ thousands and thousands of people in my community. With that said I own 3 american cars and 2 Harleys but i dont have issues with people buying Jap Cars. why is that people complain about somebody buying a $20k honda but you never hear people complaining about people sending $100k to Germany(mercedes-bmw-audi)
