I tried to roll the handle bars back towards me on my 2005 EGC but that only moved the grips down making them further away.   But it don't cost anything to try it...

Thanks for the input guys.
I think the comments about being forced to tilt my head slightly up are spot on.

Try doing scapula wall slides daily for posture and shoulder girdle strength and to help with muscle imbalances. There are other excersises too but wall slides are very effective. Check you tube or google for examples.

Update, one of the members here has made me a deal on a reach seat.  I'll give that a try first. If my pain in the neck turns into a pain in the butt we'll take another route.

Back in the 90's my 96 fatboy oem bars killed my neck & shoulder blades. Heritage bars fixed it big time. Then later on new 05 Road King Custom those oem beach bars after only 25 miles I was in the same pain. A set of 10" chubbies apes made enough difference I was able to do a 4 corners ride woulda never been possible with the beach bars. So thought was bigger must be better so Road King now has 12.5 chubbie apes for the last 6 years and wouldn't trade them for nothin. Even with wife's original 883 sporty years ago those pull back bars caused the same sorta pain for her. I swapped them out with harley's "Dyna Mini Apes" fixed her pain. Later she got an 03 lowrider and we did the same and stuck on same mini apes. Then again later she went back to a sporty (05 1200 custom) and we did the same she liked them mini apes so much. Only thing I can figure is the "Economics" rotating your hands / wrist more parallel to the ground while keeping the grips lower than your heart should keep your hands from falling asleep. Just a theory I read somewhere many years ago / but it worked for both of us.
