Is it better to go to the shed

   or back behind the woodshed

BikerJim44

I am a 53 year old biker born in Montana. FOlks moved me to Rapid City, SD when I was five. We lived on Mt. Rushmore Road and guess where all those beautiful bikes used to go every August and li'l ol' me standing there watching them. Got my first minibike when I was six and that was the end or sort of for horses and I graduated to Iron Horses and never looked back. I've had so many bikes I can't even name them all but always had my love for Harleys after my first ride on one when I was about 6 going on 7. I now own my own bike shop and reside in Southern New Mexico where you can ride pretty much year round. I have no idea how many miles I have logged on bikes but I know it's a whole bunch. I presently own an 08 Ultra and love it. My other love is woodworking. I have a 24'X87' shop that I split in half and the front is my bike shop and the other half is my wood shop. I have always loved working with my head and my hands. I am disabled due to a work related injury in 95 that pretty well left my back in a mess for life as well as other parts but thanks to my dear friend and mentor Dr. Van Warren who is my acupuncturist and the man I owe my life to for getting me well enough to throw a leg once again and be able to spend countless hours a day in my shop working on bikes. I am an animal lover and have one very nuts Boston Terrier and two crazy cats who are my life. Have a beautiful lady that loves being behind me on the bike and or just doing what seems to be fun at the time. Live, love and be happy for you never know when the end will come or as my dear friend Twisted Sister told me, " Get your birth certificate and read it. Now find the expiration date! It aint there so enjoy it while you can". Spidey.
You can ride my hoss, Ride my woman but don't ever ride my bike.

No, the shed is not a dreadful place, it's,......it's........well, just a home away from home.
Usually the stay is not long, just long enough to decide if you want to come back or not.
The winter months are long and some HTT members tend to tell jokes (names witheld) to lift spirits during the blah months.   Some get sent to the shed 4 crossing over the humor line.
Some have "potty mouth" and get sent "behind"  the shed.
Some post "no-no" pixs and get sent......beyond the shed to, who knows where.

So, when it's your time to make a shed visit, (as Mi_RDGlide said) bring beer and cards.

All are always welcome.
You'll be there "someday", count on it. :hyst:

I'm a 40 year old beancounter from Virginia, working for a government contractor. Been riding since '93, but I ask myself often: "Why didn't I start riding earlier?"

My wife makes me ride all the time, she's made me do this trip from Virginia to Milwaukee, we run to Chicago in the morning for a few days, then it's back to Virginia for 50 more weeks of the daily grind, or whenever we can get away for a week or two for a road trip.

Gotta say, life is good. Got my favorite back warmer here with me, and we did the Harley museum today.

52 year old (53 in Dec), retired from Canadian Forces after 20 years, '90-'91 Gulf War Vet. Have bee a full-time employee with a pipeline inspection company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for the past 11 years. Bought my Wide Glide new on the 20th of June 2005. Have ridden as far South as Cody, Wyoming (I've done the Beartooth Rally in Red Lodge Montana in 2006, 2007, and 2009), as far East as Regina, Saskatchewan (2007 and 2009), as far West as Vancouver, British Columbia (2006 and 2009), and as far North as Fairbanks, Alaska (2008), with various trips into Montana, and British Columbia. Shortest single ride was 17 Km (10.5 miles) as it was MINUS 17 Celcius (MINUS 1 Fahrenheit) and I wasn't wearing heated clothing, but was my birthday, December 17th and just had to do it, longest single ride was 2,130 Km (1,324 miles) I did August 20th-21st, in 20 hours 26 minutes, WHY, just becasue I can, and one day, I know I won't be able to.  In the 4 years 2 months and 11 days between buying my Harley and September 1st, 2009, I've managed to roll the Odometer over 245,596 Km (152,606 miles). September 1st the engine grenaded, bolt broke on upper cam gear, chain wadded up and ate itself, cam chest pooched, pieces went through the engine. Bad News is, I ain't riding yet (1 month 5 days and counting), Good News is, the Harley MoCo is rebuilding the engine on the Extended Service Warranty I purchased, 7 Years NO MILEAGE LIMIT, they said 4 to 6 weeks for the engine re-manufature, so I'm hoping to get it back mid-to-late October, get a few more miles on it in the 2 years, 6 months remaining on Warranty :)

Places I want to ride, Pacific Coast Highway in California, Death Valley in Nevada at 282 ft below sea level, Mount Evans, Colorado 14,100 ft above, the old Devil's Highway 666, now called the Coranado Trail Hwy 191 between Clifton and Alpine, Blue Ridge Mountains, and some place in Mexico, just to say I've had a beer there ... and that's a good start :)

The moderators made me promise I'd never tell my story - they'd have to go out and buy a larger server service!

54 & 223/365ths old Texan by Birth (thank God), head on crash survivor, and wandered quite a few places. Less bandwidth wasted if ya just ride on by the west side of Houston where you'll find a safe place in the garage for your scoot and a bed to fall down on after we tip a few cold ones and swap lies in person.

52, married to a wonderful lady for 30 years.  My dad gave me a 65 cc harley made in Italy when I was 12. Then owned alot of dirt bikes. Bought my first real Harley in 1979.  Owned 5 and currently running a 1999 Ultra Classic 95" .  Worked for the same construction company for 34 years.  Currently as a project Manager.  Think about motorcycles way to much.  OL likes to ride behind me.  President of "No Borders 4 Christ" CMA Chapter. Life is good.   :smiled:

63, a few days ago, Retired Navy, but with Army service.  Riding since the 60's, had a bunch of old Triumphs, 3 Kawi's, a Suzuki and 4 Harleys.  Still have three, but two are in storage needing work.  I've ridden in most states, some of Europe and Canada.  Longest trip was Daytona Beach to the most SW corner of Canada (Vancouver Island), somewhere in BF Oregon the old bike rolled 100,00 miles.
Health has curtailed my longer distance rides.  Host Meet&Greets for Bike Week and Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach area.

55 last June, Honda CB 450 got me through the college years, then on to Yam 650, '74 Yam DT400 (still have it), couple Ironheads, couple Shovels (still have the '76 FLH), a '94 FLSTC, and now our '03 FLHRCI.

I've lived all my life in upstate NY (way upstate from NYC), where I built homes for 20 some years, but got rid of the crews earlier this century.  Got to be too much like "day care with power tools & nail guns".  I'm solo now, built me a 32' x 56' building for my cabinet shop & wooden boat shop...gotta love a good ol' woodie.  My wife says I'm much easier to get along with these days.  I believe her.

She retires from the DoD at our (former) Griffiss AFB at the end of next year, and we plan on seeing North America from the 1953 GMC PD-4104 we are refurbishing.  Yup...the RoadKing will be behind us in the TTTTTtrailer (as Grumpy's friend Frenchie says)

Ride safe...

Jamo and any of you all who are out adventureing this great US of A don't forget that if you get into the Roswell, NM area to give me a heads up. You've always got a nice big shop to park your hoss and a warm bed to flop in. The grill always has a bottle of gas and there's usually something in the fridge to burn on it so don't be shy. Safe travels and Ride Invisible, Spidey.
You can ride my hoss, Ride my woman but don't ever ride my bike.

55 this month.  Numerous bikes in the past, mostly Jap.  I'm still riding my '73 FLH I got in about '78.  I hope to get another newer ride in the near future, but will never get rid of my Shovel.    Self employed in the lawn and garden equip. business-21 years.  Before that I was a lineman and equipment operator, building power lines in Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming. Two knee surgeries was a factor in changing my career. I'm glad I did, it got me home full time to help raise my two beautiful daughters.      Marty

56 next month.  Married for 24 years to a great wife.  Took an early retirement from Chrysler Corp a little over 2 years ago after working for them for 22 years in Service and Parts Division.  Worked nearly 2 years after retirement for a local General Contractor as a Project Manager.  Work dried up and got laid off.  Taking it easy now.  If it ever stops raining, I may do some riding before it turns off cold.  I live in North Mississippi just outside of Memphis.  Been in and around Memphis most of my life.  First bike nearly 30 years ago was a Honda CB360, then a Yamaha XS750 triple. After that pos, I bought a beautiful Honda CB1000 Custom.  Finally saved enough cash to buy a Harley about 12 years ago and never looked back.  Wife told me to "go ahead and by a Harley and get it out of your system."  Still working on that, don't think I'll ever get it out of my system. We still laugh about that.  She likes to ride with me, has no desire to ride her own.   First Harley was a used '95 Ultra.  Bought it from a Shriner in North Carolina.  Flew over to NC and rode it home about 800 miles.   After that I've traded every year or two or three.  Some years I've ridden nearly 20000 miles, others only about 12000.  I guess I average about 12 to 14000 miles a year.  The wife and I love riding the Blue Ridge Parkway when we can get over that far, also the Natchez Trace Parkway.  Other than that we try to do a trip to FL during Bike Week and/or Biketoberfest to visit friends there.  I have ridden up into Canada and back, and just did a road trip this past summer up through Michigan's UP across the top of Lake Michigan and then down into Milwaukee.  I've been a Road Captain for the local HOG club for the last 6 years.

Pushing hard on 50 years (Nov 13th), married to the same woman for 25 years (Oct 19th), kids grown up (young fellow just started medical school after finishing up a psych degree, the young lady is finishing up her last year in an education program.

Been riding on the street for more than 30 years.....like the old british bikes (own a couple Norton Commandos.....one stock fastback and a chopped roadster) got an old triumph in the shop that will be a project at some time. Riding an 88 Heritage for the past 5 - 6 years....first Harley...just getting it to where it needs to be....not really a great touring rig but I have had it just about all the way across the continent (ran out of time).....I live just about as far east in Canada as you can. Work in the drilling business both in Canada and other parts of the world.....been down in Utah/Nevada, over in East Africa, South America quite a bit (hopefully have a job in Surinam in January.

Problebly gonna work full time for another 5 years or so and then slow down a little....hopefully a little more time for the longer runs at that point....plan on buying a touring rig then....maybe not a Harley (oh "Potty mouth" I'm gonna join Panzer in the shed now for sure).

I have been as far north as Labrador and as far west as Wyoming and most spots in between. Don't really have any specific trips in mine but would like to get across the rockies on bike...haven't done that yet.

Thats my storey and I am sticking to it....Panzer, move over for that non Harley touring rig comment.
