Guys,
I have owned my 07 Ultra since new and always keep to the maintenance schedule , since I ride quite a bit and commute on it as well. At 43,000 miles I noticed going down the highway in 5th or 6th gear around 2500 rpms, it sounds like the Jettsons car......just a high ptiched noise that mimicks the speed of the gear that it's in. After looking around and then briniging it to the dealer where they put it on the dyno to search for the noise ....no solution. My friends 06 ultra is beginnning to do it also, ( same milage). As a troubleshooting measure, I bought some of Harley's belt dressingf and applied it to the sides of the belt, and boom....no more noise. Well, at least for 100 miles or so, then it starts coming back. It appears that the belt is running up against the inside, (wheel side) of the pulley. I don't understand how it can be out of line, when there is really no adjustment on the rear wheel like on my 97. The dealer mentioned that he could check the total vehicle alignment, but that makes no sense to me either, as the engine, trans, and swingarm are all connected. the only thing that may make sense is if the swingarm pivot shaft, or bushings are worn and under a load are tweaking to one side throwing the rear wheel slightly out of alignment. ( it does not do it when you let off of the throttle) only under power. It's embarassingly loud on the highway. Anyone else see this problem? or have any ideas for me? I understand that belts and pulleys are NOT covered under my extended warranty. Looking for help, if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions.

I meant to say thank you, but hit the wrong button and it posted before I wanted it to......TIA,    2glides

i find it unusual that the belt tracks to the inside of the pulley while going forward as most of them tend to track to the outside of the pulley. also seems like the inside of the pulley has a guard made of sheet metal that's pressed on and the outside guard, ridge, lip, or whatever ya wanna call it, is formed when the pulley is cast and is smoother and thicker, where the belt runs against it, than the thin inside tin guard. either way, i still find it unusual that your belt tracks to the inside going forward. if you take your hands off the bars while going straight (NOT recommended lol) does it tend to pull you to the right?

Hd actually has 3 belts ..one runs to one side for ( sporty ) one the other side for  FLs ..and straight ( trikes )

thanks HV, i didn't realize H-D made belts to intentionally run to one side or the other or in the middle of the pulleys.  guess i learn something every day but still wouldn't think they'd put either of the "other" belts on an FL....provided they were the right tooth count.
