I upgraded my passing lamps on my 03 ultra in 06 when one had burned out to the halogen passing lamps. Now one of those has burnt out, I am assuming. The dealer stated I had to purchase a new lamp. Does anybody know how to just change the bulb. I have to think in my mind that it could be done. Thanks in Advance.

My 02 has a sealed beam, I am not sure what year they changed, but my friends 06 has bulbs.

On my 04 RK I bypassed the "sealed beam" issue by lifting up the rubber seal, replacing the bulb, and putting black tape around the seal

Remove the trim ring and pop the assembly out. Peal back the rubber seal from the back side of the reflector, twist to remove the bulb. Simple. You can buy replacement halogen bulbs at most any auto parts store. Seems to me the stock bulb is a 881. You can bump up the light output by putting in a 886 bulb instead.

I use the same halogen lamps.  When you pull back the rubber boot, you'll find a 35 wt H3 bulb.  Harley sells the replacement bulb - #68851-98.  Be careful removing the rubber boot - its glued on.  Go easy and you can get it off with little to no damage.  You may also be able to find a 35 wt H3 at NAPA. Occasionally I have found one there.

Thanks for the help!!! Got it going. It was funny to see the look on the parts guy's face when I pulled the rubber boot back and pulled the plug out... I know, but I couldn't resist since he had said it was sealed and could not be changed. Thanks again.

Good job.  It's always fun when you can teach the "professionals" something cool.

Some of those guys are only hired because they know how the cash register works and nothing else.
If they paid a living wage and not minimum wage they might be able to get some competent help.

Yeah, but you learn by experience.  Obviously, this was his first experience with that question.  Now he knows.
