When i plug the tender in the back-up bike which i seldom ride...one of the two indicator lights on the tender just stays solid (not blinking)...so does that suggest the battery is probably gone south?

On the RK...the light always start to blink for a short or long while...depending on how much charge it needs.

TIA

I had one of the H-D tenders that I won as a door prize at my H-D dear for some function they were having when walking in to buy some parts.
It always has a solid light on it, even when attaching it to a good battery.  I suspected that my tender was not operating right and put a meter on the output and its not even putting out any voltage with or with out a load.  Since it was past 30 days from when I received it. I put it in the trash.

Go to Sears and get one.  The last that I bought was only $19.99 from them and don't remember if it was on sale or discounted.  That is less then the $34.99 from the dealship.

I have the HD one, always solid red (charging) green (fully charged)color. When I come in fro ma ride an hour later after bike has cooled down I plug in it`s red for about 5 seconds then then goes green.

I use a Yuasa smart charger that I bought at a Honda store years ago.  It, like the battery tender, requires you plug the charger into the battery before plugging it into the wall.  After a couple of minutes of a steady light, it will begin to blink yellow until the battery is charged up to some high level then I get a solid green light when the charger switches to float.

I once hooked it to my riding mower battery when it would only click when I turned the key and the yellow light stayed steady for over 24 hours.  I measured with a meter and the voltage was way low, maybe 6 volts.  In desparation, I hooked up an old-fashioned motorcycle charger which just drove 1 amp at about 14 volts into the battery over night then hooked up the smart charger again.  After a couple of minutes, the yellow light started flashing and, after several hours, I got a steady green.  A year later the mower battery still works fine.

So...  After saying all the above, try an old-fashioned charger if you have one and you may be able to recover the battery at least for a while.

My HD trickle charger works great.       Always plugged in when parked in garage.   Battery is always fully charged.

on mine (HD) one blinks yellow when charging and stays green when fully charged.

Look on the back of the charger. It should tell you what the light do. Any deviation from that and I would suspect something is amiss.

Tsani...good idea...have been using this one for almost a decade....If i plug it on the RK...it will starts blinking (charging i assume). After the battery is fully charge...and it take a long time...the light will go solid.

On the other bike...because i seldom ride it...the battery has probably gone south... (both bikes have leads already to the battery that go with the charger)...So when i plug it in...the light stays solid...after a hour or so...still solid...however the charger feels quite warm?

So i assume the charger is working like it is suppose too...perhaps not putting out enough charge or amps as previous posts have suggested...as it does fine on the RK...

Thanks for your reply...

Been using the same HD charger since 99 when I bought my first Harley...
