Does anyone know what it takes to mount a set of 2003 Heritage Springer Bags on a 2006 Deluxe so that they can be detachable? Have a friends wife that wants to hook him up for Christmas.

I got my Detachable Kit from HD, I have an '02 Heritage.  It may be a simple as determining the dimentions with a tape measure to see if the Strut Bolts that mount the bags are the same  and if so then I suspect that she can get the kit at HD.

I run a bubbas brakes detachable system on my Heritage

it replaces the HD fender bolts with Bubbas that accept his
thinner (narrow) side plates and the bags get
thumb screws internally as well as on the support leg

I can pull off the detachable and bags in a few minutes

putting them on is a snap, I use a 9/16 open end to tighten them down
just keep one in the bag,

Quality stuff mines almost 10 years old never had any problems
and they don't stick the bags out a couple of inches like the HD stuff.

I believe that you will have to drill the strut covers and change out the rear inner mounting brackets to allow the bags to mount up.

I used Ghost Brackets on my 05. Clean look when I took them off.

ISH removable... When we got my wife's 05 Deluxe we mounted the 2003 Springer bags on the bike.  We took the damn Deluxe and parked it next to her 20 over chopper downtown Daytona and in March 05 the deluxe got more looks than the fully custom chop.

Looks good, the thatch pattern on the bags sort of matches the seat.  CAn't even tell unless you are looking for it.  The heritage, the heritage springer and the deluxe are three COMPLETELY different motorcycles, parts all different, mountings all different.  You are in custom bike world unless somebody finally built a kit to do this...  The guys at harley haven't even dreamed this "Potty mouth" up yet.

Not easily removable its a bolt on.  And I sure with the size of those bags don't recommend removeable.  We also went to the springer exhaust, you NEED cross over exhaust or something like a thunder header and lose the shotguns.

Now, other problems.  The deluxe backrests will not fit at all.  We tried and its ugly... The Deluxe back rest would need a notch cut in the bracket and then rechromed to look good, it doesn't expect the bags to be mounted on the bolt positions that the springer uses.

It does take drilling the fender struts and using heritage springer inner bolt recievers all right out of the HD parts book.  The deluxe has a 1" lower seat height and those fender brackets are different from the heritage.

The package has been in use here since feb 05 and is a total thumbs up...  But this summer the wife wanted the wider P pad so she got it, and wanted a sissy bar...  The back pad for the DELUXE sissy bar matches the look, and the other softails do not.  The Springer bags mount on a different set of bolts than the heritage bags, so the darn sissys will not match up or clear.

Now if the guy doesn't care about sissy bars I give the conversion a 10.  Want pics?  I thought this was a way cool idea when I did it, the guys at the dealership's heads were spinning.   BOB

Yeah we tucked the OL's bike away at the shop for the winter, but I'll get over there and push it into the light and click a few detailed ones and stick them up.  The best would be take a bag off so you can see all details of the conversion, but after that sissy bar mess just before Sturgis I don't want to start unbolting crap again...  That process was brutal.  Wife chewing in my ear what she wants and my inability to preform magic with parts that shouldn't be bolted together.  Standard male life.  BOB
