Is there a "front" and "rear" a flange ?
I was under the impression that they were both the same?
If they are different, what makes them soo?

Exhaust is correct.. Intakes are only different on 04 - earlier IIRC.. I know the 06 later, intakes are the same.. Max

I am sorry. please allow me to restate the question.

I was referring to the carb manifold flanges.  Always thought they were the same, but read a service bulliten that states otherwise.  Is the a front and rear crab manifold flange?

This is what I said about intakes...

Not sure about 05s though...

'05 and earlier intake flanges are asymmetric and are marked with F for front and R for rear,

in the '06 model year HD came out with a redesigned cylinder head that used symmetrical intake flanges and a new intake manifold for carb models.

In the 2001 FLT parts book both fuel injection and carb use the same flanges but, the numbers are reversed between the two as far as front and rear.
They are stamped F & R though so I guess you can't go wrong.
