Anyone ever greased the neck bearings on this bike? Looks to me like you will need a grease gun with a 90 degree head on it to get the grease in. Any one have any suggestions?

any farm supply has an adaptor for your grease gun that slides right on the stock zerk.  Some replace the zerk with a 90* zerk but the adaptor works slick.

If you've never greased it before get ready for a workout.  You'll be pumpin' for a while.

Only advise I've got for you is don't use cheap grease, or you'll be wearing it all next summer.

I'd recommend "Green Grease", available at Auto Zone and other auto parts stores.

Ed how is the Green grease in the 90* temps?    Thats about the only grease I have not tried. all others turn to oil and or collect at the bottom triple tree.   Thanks Doc

I live in South MS, so I see lots of high temp's. It was no problem on my 99 FLHT and it's no problem on the 02 RG I have now. Just as an afterthought, I am also a volunteer firefighter. We use "green grease" to lube valves on all the pumping equipment. When finished, I hang the grease pump on a peg board in one of the stations and it never drips a drop. Stations are not air conditioned so they see 100 degrees in the summer.

It works fine for me.

Hey Doc,
Years ago I caught a similar thread here and got a tip about using Slick 50 grease so I went on line and ordered a few tubes and used that from the start on my 03 RK and have never had a problem with it running. IIRC the reason to use it was as a synthetic lube it wasn't prone to seperate and run like a petroleum grease. Course the first lube requires 1/2 a tube, LOL.

I have a tube of Redline left and it drips just hanging and its full syn. grease. I can get the green grease at auto zone, so will give it a try.  Thanks Doc

Personally I think it's a lot cheaper to just change out the zerk with a 45 degree zerk.  This is what I did, then I put the straight zerk in my primary where the gear shifter goes through (like they used to have on the old EVO's).

Huge internal cavity fills the bottom half with grease. With luck some might make the upper bearing, but not likely. High temp will cause grease seperation.  If you don't use a grease that's combatible with the stock grease there'll be a problem, yet, nobody's sure the stock grease itself won't cause seperation.     Disassemble and hand lubricate.  good luck.  Not fun.

HD states to use Special Purpose grease that they sell, I have used it and it turns to oil also.  Doc

I usually just replace the bearings at 50k with a good grease pack. To pump the neck full of grease might keep lube on the bottom bearing and it will give the lower tree a oil bath in hot temps like here in Fl, customers think they have a fork seal leak its more crap than its worth were not talkin wheel bearings after all. Now if the Moco had a zerk at each end and a sealing at each one as well that would be the cats ass ....dream on
