..I have a chance to pick one up for a reasonable price..(4400 miles) I know there are cheaper out there but I could never buy a bike without test driving it...any way I'm looking for opinions pro or con regarding this model..i know the heads were redesigned in 06, it has the 1" axels, 49 mm. frontend, this would be my 1st fuel injected bike..it has forward controls (added)..I think it has vance and hines slipons ..to give it a good harley sound....first year of the 6 speed, and still 88 cu. in....are these a good platform for high performance?

I don't want to hijack your post but I just pickup a 2006 Dyna Low Rider last weekend and it has 701 miles on it and it seams to vibrate more that my bagger is this common with Dyna's or do you think I may have a different problem? The Bike has been setting from June 2008 until now could this be that it just needs more miles put on it ?

O4T...I have an '06 Dyna and like today better than ever! Mine is now a 95" with SE204 other wise pretty stock. You can see the results in the Dyno run section...I'm about 4 or 5 down today.
One other good point you didn't list is the '06 is the only year Dyna came with a 70 tooth rear sprocket for a 2.96 final gear ratio. I have a little over 53,000 miles and running great.
Dan
PS...You have everything but the crank...thus you're 88".

..Dblackman thanks for pointing out the rear sprocket size..does that call for a special rear belt..in the event of replacement..?..what is the size sprockett on a regular dyna low rider..

DblackmanC

I don't know if belt is special size or not...never had to replace. The '07 and up Dyna's have a 66 tooth rear for a 2.79 final gear ratio. The Low Rider gearing is no different than all other Dynas.

You might want to research inner primary bearing issues.

Riverdog, I have had 4 baggers and 1 Dyna Lowrider (04), and yes, Dynas have a lot more vibration.  But, they are faster!!!

I've been riding FX series bikes since 1980 and presently own a 07' Street Bob and have had a few Low Riders.  I think they are the best all purpose line that Harley makes.  You can tour on one, they are easy to deal with around town, handle good for the twisties, look good.......... what is not to like?

97...the inner primary bearing concern turned out to be a non-issue and all H-D now have the '06 Dyna system. There is a hole in the primary for oil to flow thru the bearing and some at the factory were installed with the snap ring blocking the hole. Install it correctly and it works great!

Vibration?? The Dyna has a rubber mounted engine and does shake a lot at idle (Made to shake on purpose) but once under way and at highway speed...smooth (as abagger IMO).

Dynas are a great all-purpose bike.  I loved my '04 Superglide, comfortable enough on long trips (with breaks) but the fun factor when you crack the throttle open brought a grin to my face, especially after a mild 95" upgrade, exhaust and a set of SE 251's installed.  My Road King is a great touring bike and more comfortable on the road, but if it would get up and go as well as my Dyna did, that would be a perfect match.

..well I bought the 06 low rider..very happy with it..she's a little loud it's got vance and hines slip ons..might baffle it up a bit..other wise bone stock..might put an early style superglide front fender on it..eventually..goes down the road pretty good and that 6 speed is great..thanks to all for the comments on this post..

Congratulations....You'll get many miles of smiles out of her!

..thanks Dan..I feel good about this bike..the low mileage makes it feel like she's barely brocken in..basicly I was gonna trade my 03 FLHT to a 2010FLClassic ..the little lady talked me out of it so ...I kept the 03 and really almost feels like I got this low rider for the price I would have paid difference..pretty happy with this picture since my 03 FLHT runs great and I'm the original owner...just ordered the factory manual..100 bucks canadian....but it will pay for itself in no time..
