Not too familiar with the Mickey Rooney. A friend has a '06 Road King with 95" & flattops, 203 cams, true duals and the HSR42, question is: Where should I start with jetting this? at sea level btw. TIA

20 pilot, 165 main -97 stock needle one notch below center, 50 pump jet with a dimes width for start & set the off flush with the carb top.  Be sure to use the Mik plunger for the choke and verify the choke cable has a tad of play when pushed all the way in after install, might also want to verify the float level before install.

Many here are running the 20pilot -98 needle center notch & 165 main 50 pump jet.

The carb comes a tad fat out of the box with 25 pilot, -97 needle & 70 pump jet.

Do yourself a favor & get familiar here with the Mik general tuning & install guides

Thanks Greg, I'm ordering the jet kit for the 45 (1007-0323) from drag, looks like a better selection but only has the #60 pump jet. Where do you buy individual pieces? I'll keep ya posted.

You don't want to order from there.  You want to call Bernie at Fox Distributing and get your jets, needles, pump nozzles there.    http://www.mikuni-foxdist.com/     You will not need all the crap in a jet kit. You got some great information on jetting.  I do use a -98 needle, 165, 50 pump and 20 slow from sea level up to 10,000+ feet with good results.  I set the arm to just touch the pump rod.  I also make sure the pump rod does not hang up in the  boss on the side of the carb that serves as a guide.  You can use oil and valve grinding compound if a little sticky.

.......dang it, forgot to say that you may want to order some new bowl screws as those are real soft and kinda attach to the aluminum bowl and the heads can get messed up getting them out.  Or you could get some metric allen head screws at the local ACE hardware store.

Well just finished this one up. I followed 05FLHTC's suggestions except I used the 60 pump nozzle instead of the 50, anyway the bike runs perfect now where before it would backfire, spit, surge and foul plugs. Oh yea, the phillips head screws rounded when trying to remove the first time. He also has a Dyna ignition on it and it was set all wrong to boot.

Thanks all for the replies!
