My 06 ultra classic has the laced rims on it.  The bike has 80K+ miles on it and it takes 4.5 - 5 oz of weights to balance the tires.  I'm trying to decide whether I try to have the rims "trued", live with the rims the way they are, or whether I should replace the rims with new cast rims.  Anyone have any experience with this?  Any opinions?

with some of the stories here lately bout rims splitting and seein as you got some good miles on yours i guess i would at least take tires, tubes, n rimstrips off and at least inspect them real good to help make the decision,,,

If they are in good shape, have em checked and trued if needed. However, it may not be your rims that are cause the balance issue.

Are they eccentric?  If so, they'll always be a bitch to balance.  Ray

Snorth,
If you have a dial indicator or pointer and small adjustable wrench, it's not difficult to true the rim.  The service manual has a good explanation.  I was able to build a wheel and true it well within spec, according to the people who mounted the tire.
