It's time to replace my stock rear tire, so I might as well do the front. I think the Avon Venoms are the way to go. On the Avon website it says my 07 FXDB should run a 160/70-17 rear and 100/90-19 front. Is this correct? I've seen other size designations like AM and MT.
Wouldn't mind going up one size as long as I don't have to change anything else, but it's not a big deal.
Any input on the fitment would be appreciated. Also, if you know a good source for buying at a good price.

Had Avons on my Aspencade for 4 yrs. approx. 22000 miles still had 2/3 tread left.
Put them on my bagger this year.

22K miles!   Were these Avons actually mounted on the wheels or just tied to the back of the sissy bar!

Just bought a set..130/16 front..150/16 rear for $325 shipped to my door from american classic motors on ebay.

+1 Avons.  On my 2nd set, but will replace next year with E3's, ONLY because Dunlops are made in USA.  We'll see if E3s are as good as Avons.

Also, said it before, say it again...mileage will vary significantly based on road surfaces.  We have very hard, rough surfaces in Colorado and tires do not last as long.  Only way I could get 22K (miles) out of a tire is it its made of steel.  Then, 22k is likely all I would get here in the Rockies. lol

Wore out a set of Avons in less than 8,000 miles.  Wore the edges off the front to the cords and center off the rear.  Went to Dunlop E-3's.  They feel fine to me and last thousands of miles more than I got with the avons.

Just bought a new set of Dunlops for my 79 superglide.  It came with Goodyear Eagles which only exist in our dreams anymore.  The dressers have all ran Dunlops.  I have experience with Metzelers on my Custom Softail, and my buddy who built a hot rod on a similar chassis when I built my Custom used Metzelers and burned them off in 3K being a hooligan and then jumped to Avon's.  He claimed better longevity.

The FXDB could run the 160, the 100/90 is the standard size for Sporty's through FX line, through the Dyna fronts.  They aren't very wide.  A 110/90 might be an interesting upgrade and would provide more front braking ability.  You'd probably barely notice the extra beef visually, but i know you'd feel it in braking.

22K miles, well maybe on a front.  Most I have ever gotten from any rear is about 8K and the sidecar tires all burned up to the cords by 5K no matter who's tires they are.

I just mentioned this the other day.  Buy your tires for how they look on your bike.  I also recommend TIRES UNLIMITED as a low dollar price on just about any bike tire through my research.  You just have to know what you are looking for which is 3/4 of the battle.

Also tires like "Venoms" and such are made for sport bikes and have very soft rubber.  Expect superior dry road handling, rougher ride and lower mileage wear.  But if they look cool and handle like a Ducati, well zoom zoom.

2006 and up Dyna will take a 180/60-17 with the wide tire kit. I think you can buy the plates and your own tire instead of the dealer kit the product notes tell you which plates......Bob

Thanks so far for all the useful info. I will look into the 110 for the front but don't think I want to go to a 180 at the back (appreciate the link, FXDBI). I was hoping there was something like a 170 that would work without any modding. Avon has a 170/60 that fits the Screamin Eagle, but I have to find out if there are clearance issues.

I have run Avon venoms for a while now and really like the milage and performance. This year I switched to the new Avon Cobra; it handles even better than the venoms.

Since the last 20+ years.  Not all Dunlops are but the majority of the HD dunlops are made in N.Y.

Well there's a reason Dunlops are produced in the USA and not just in Ireland.  Goodyear bought the company in 1999.

Brand names are just Brand names...  In rubber they just go on the side.  It sure cuts a lot out of shipping cost when manufacturing is using a Goodyear plant in NY instead of having to ship every tire from Ireland.

Business....

when I switched to a 17 in rim on my 04 Dyna I couldn't find a 160 17 in the am42 venom I called  Avon and they recommended running the 160/17 azaro (sp?) radial tire on the rear and the Am41 venom on the front. They have since changed the name of the azaro to the Storm (av56) these are definitely the best tires I have ever ran. I ride very aggressively and the handling and longevity are fantastic. and they hook up great for hard launches. I would strongly suggest you look into these tires you wont be dissappointed
