I am wondering if the new design cams can fit on the older models, I already have the new hydraulic tensioner kit form HD, are there any differences in cam diameter on the crank case side?

No they won't. You have to get a set of conversion cams as the ends of the cams that fit into the engine case are a different size on the newer 2007 and up. If you check the web sites of Andrews etc. you will se them listed.

They will not work out of the box, but they can be cut down and a bearing sleeve added to make them work, a few here have done it.  Doc

also remember to order the Andrews 34t cam sprocket with the trigger ring for the cam positioning sensor. 99 to 01 or 02 models. Thats if you do the conversion.
