hey all-
Well I have a 69 year old bro that his wife wants to get him a back support belt/body belt to help him during riding. Now he wants to go til he is 75, we'll see but he does complain about his back on long rides. Hell I  have that problem now. Anyway, I am in a pinch, x-mas is 6 days away and we need to get him one. Any of you all use one and have a recommendation?
TIA...

I had a really great one when I road dirt bikes, but that was 30 years ago. Go to a dirt bike shop and ask for kidney belts. I found a cheaper version at Home Depot tbat I use now.

:agree: with the backrest 100%. Only way to go. The belt will be temporary relief at best. You might get him one for X-mas then help him look around for a good backrest for the long hauls. I have a very messed up back and I can't hardly ride to town and back without my backrest but with it on I can ride all day for days on end with it. I still hurt but near as much as without it. Spidey.
You can ride my hoss, Ride my woman but don't ever ride my bike.

I have to agree with the posts above.  I have had back problems for several years.  The back rest I have now is the adjustable one.  That is the best one I have found yet.  The kidney belt is itchy, hot especially on a hot day, plus it doesn't let you breath correctly because it holds you in tight.  I know the backrest is more, but he will be a lot happier with it.  If you can't get a backrest in time for Christmas a gift certificate is almost as good.

Member of the broke back club, the riders adjustable riders back rest is the real deal.  What bike does he own, the touring bikes have a great riders backrest set-up.  Weightlifters back supports may be less restrictive than some of the lifting back support type set-ups.  If he is in treatment for his back issues the core type exercises and activities best help for these kind of activities.  Good Luck and Happy Holidays, good thing your doing there, helping your friends ride!!

here's another vote for the adjustable backrest. i've never had back problems but i've tried the belts and they're just too damn uncomfortable, especially on a long ride, and if/when you tighten them up enough to actually do any good, they do restrict your breathing. i leave my backrest on all the time as does my OL.

yep the back rest  was a life saver/back saver for me.

Evo160K

Jerite,
Proflex by Ergodyne is a good brand of back support.  We handled the line when I was in business.  You can find them at W W Grainger or many industrial safety supply distributors.  I use the 1051 mesh back style when I exercise, ride or work around the house/yard.  Wear it over the abdomen, below the belly button, not over the stomach.

I have the exact same one Evo160k mentioned, but I removed the suspenders. Have been wearing it for the last 8 years. I won't ride long distances without it. I'm 66 with a 03 Ultra and when I arrive at my destination after 500 to 700 miles, I'm not tired at all....I do have a slight beer belly... just slight and cannot imagine having it bouncing up and down for any length of time.
The back rest is nice, but DOES NOT help support your belly and does not do anything for your kidneys(they use to be called kidney belts way back in the day).

MY ADVICE IS BUY IT FOR HIM, HE'LL THANK YOU FOR IT.

I grew up in Brooklyn in the 1950s..I used to always see bikers then with big leather kidney belts complete with bicycle reflectors and studs....They looked badass and certainly made an impression on me....
