I'm making a custom shifter rod for a friend.  It suddenly hit me, her Softtail might be different from my rubber-mount Dyna and EG.

Just to be sure, are Softtail shift rods nominally 11-3/4" long with 5/16" x 24 threads?

Ya thats about right. Some models take a longer one but I just put one on my softail and it was about a foot long.
It'll fit, just hit it harder!

Thanks.  I'll continue.
Sidenote:  I can't get the picture that I uploaded to Webshots to show up (except for a thumbnail).  I've tried almost every combination.

Ken the Wideglide is the model that takes a longer shift rod.
Looks nice, good job.

Phil, I'm thinking that my wide glide and the Ultra take the same.  (or so close that I can't tell the difference while they're mounted on the bikes).

I have both ends finished now and am doing something to adorn the middle.  I'll post it when finished.

Got it finished.  May be one of my best.  I think Dawn is going to like it.  (at least better than the galvanized stock shift rod).

I thought you had a superglide. Only the FXDWG takes a longer rod.
