You got something hangin out there. That pretty damned easy.. It's when you got some like this that you separates the men from the boys..

Then you need one of these..

I've used this to remove a locktighted bolt for the IAC on a throttle body where a friend snapped the screw-head just trying to remove it..

The Extraction Tool Set in Max's pic is about as good as it gets.

+2 on Max's extractor set. I used to sell these and about seven other types. But this was the best. One reason is the Drill bushings that you can use to center your drill if you have any stub left sticking up or if it is broken in a recess like in the pic.

Mike, the set is made by Ridgid. It is sold by most all professional tool companies. Mac # SE10., Snap-on #E1020, Matco, Cornwell, maybe Sears? About $100.

You were lucky. Many times, they can be very difficult to remove. As mentioned above, use anti-sieze on the thread when re-installing. I would not use any Loctite on the threads.

I had to remove my oil filter adapter on my 2004 Ultra to install the lower front sidecar mount a couple of years ago. There are three 1/4-20 bolts holding it in. I had no sooner started removing the three bolts than one of them broke off with only about 3/8" stickng out.

I used a small set of Vise Grips (real ones, Made in US) and locked them on tightly and slowly rocked it back and forth until it loosened. I was able to get it out. The damn bolt was in there 3/4" with that gray Harley Loctite. It took every bit of a half hour to remove it. I only had room for about 1/3 of a turn and then I had to loosen and reset the Vise Grips. Worst of all it was about a grade 2 standard bolt, nice and soft and jammed in with Loctite. Nice.

I cleaned the threads with a tap and replaced all three bolts with grade 8's with anti-sieze and tightened them gently by hand. That was close since there would have been no room to drill it out if it had been a little shorter. Phew.
