Harley vs. Metric V-twin...???

Ok, so I have a co-worker that sits about 10' away from me that keeps running his  about how a import metric v-twin will outrun a Harley, showroom stock vs. showroom stock.

I've never rode a metric, and never raced one either...  So what's the verdict??  I need to know whether to shut him up or not??

depends on the bikes, but most mid size sport bikes will probably outrun a stock harley just about any day of the week, only harley i can see having a chance stock wise would be a V-Rod.....

depends on the vtwin.  heck honda and suzuki both make (or did) a sport bike vtwin that will flat out fly.  some of the yamaha vtwin cruiser put out a lot of power.  The honda VTX1800 makes good torq, the big kaw vtwin has a ton of torq.  A honda 750 shadow you could beat lol. 

True story two years ago a work mate went to Sturgis with us on his honda shadow 1100.  He was a died in the wool harley basher.  He said his bike would get 50mpg so even tho it had a 4 gallon tank he would be having to wait for myself and my other buddy while we gased up.  He found out at 80mph his loaded down little shadow got about 30mpg and we waited for him.  He found that while we cruised effortlessly at 80-85mph it was more than his little shadow could comfortably handle.  He changed his tune and now has a 08 roadglide.

some will some won't. Stock for stock Harleys aren't fast. The lighter super or dyna glides and softails run pretty strong. I only have 3 bikes. None are stock Harleys. One is an actual Harley, 2 are clones. The actual Harley is a modified Softail Std. and runs 119mph at 11.26 run after run. The FXR bike 10.50''s at 126 and my slow hard bagger is 12.30 at 113. On thing is all these guys use the magizine test results for thier numbers and if they go to the strip they can't do what a professional rider can. Like my young friend that took his new GSXR 1000 to the strip. After 30 runs he finally got it to run a 10.90. But thats not what the magizine said! I love to take my bagger on the interstate and embearASS wing riders when they think they are rolling on next to a Harley. They don't know the poor 113 is pulling over 120 hp and more torque. Only a lowly 5 speed that runs 81 mph at 3100 and pulls the dyno RRRRRRRRRRBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAto 162 at red line. Like that one commercial that Harley ran a few years back, I can see your friend as an old man. The old man hears a Harley go by and says"If there is one thing I wish I had done, I'd buy that Harley Davidson". Oh, why don't you do him a favor also and go the grocery and get a bag of rice and take it to work for him. Ride rice, eat rice, "Potty mouth" rice.

  when did we get so politically correct. METRIC??? call it what it is. JAP BIKE! Nobody dogs the Beemers or the Trumpets. I think they're trying to make themselves feel better about owning them. It's all the trash talking that gets them in trouble anyhow. I've owned a lot of Jap Bikes, but I've been riding Harleys for 28 years now. To me there is no other choice. So, tell this guy at work to pound sand up his ass and plant a palm tree.

Deathwish is right many do not know and are going from what they read in Cycleworld/metric cruiser/etc.  I was one of those who thought hd had to be slow and what changed my mind was coming back from Sturgis in 2000 on my bmw R1100S (a true 145mph bike) and I was cruising about 90mph or so and I see two sets of headlights come up behind me and could tell they were a couple of Electraglides.  I figured what the heck and sped up a little and they kept right behind me and this continued until I was over 120 and figured I needed to slow down or risk getting a ticket.  I backed off a bit and they flew around me and disappeared out of sight.  At the time i had no idea that there was such a thing as 120hp + baggers running around.  At the time I thought holy crap nobody is going to believe what I just witnessed.

Tell the jkoff to move wherever the imported piece of "Potty mouth" comes from. And if it's honda and he says"its made in america" punch him in the mouth, tired of that nonsense too. I know Harley does integrate some foreign parts,does not make me happy neither that they do but dammit we have try to buy whats made here a much as we can..if not this country will continue down the toilet. I had a guy who used to badger me like that, I humored him for a bit  and he kept going and just would not shut the fk up. Always wanted to race to see who was faster, and i finally said hey i have never raced any of my harley's it's not about that for me so lets go outside and see how fast you can go on that jap piece of "Potty mouth" with two black eyes, a fat lip and one of my boots up your fking ass...you could hear pin drop. and don't you just love it! The first thing the Jap cruiser guys do is put on straight pipes to try to pass their bike off as a Harley. Honest Citizen doesn't know the difference so we get all the blame. They can try to look like a Harley and sound like a Harley but they are still just chromed plastic. Plastic headlight, plastic fenders, plastic dash, plastic screw on fins, blah blah blah
