ok this is the deal  a bro of mine bought this 03 custom from a car dealership from the area that got this bike at auction now he only got 800 miles on last summer and was always having problems with the clutch " slipping" they told him they had a local shop put in new plates in it before he bought it. We took it apart and it has 9 friction and 8 steels but the steels look like they be burned and the last friction we took out is smaller or has less of kevlar material "thinner" not in depth but in width! also took out 2 steel rings out of basket as well about 1/8 in wide same size as discs! can anyone tell me how to exactly put this back together correctly!! not sure if it was right the first time?? I know friction first followed by steel then alternate but what are the steel rings and where should they go in ?? any input would be appreciated !! thank you

I am assuming the 2 steel rings are the Damper spring { should be concave } and damper spring seat and the 1 narrow friction  plate reasemble as follows...install the damper spring seat on clutch hub...it must sit inboard of the narrow friction plate....install the damper spring with the concave side facing away from the damper spring seat...next narrow friction plate...then steel plate with round edges outward  and so on...but I got to ask  did u try adjusting the clutch before u took it apart.......Good Luck .....Mark
