In the transmission business I went through buckets of Loctite but I've been out of the business for a few years.
I have some that's probably 15 years old left over in almost empty bottles and was concerned about using it anymore on anything critical.
I did a test on some the other night (was bored) and not to worry. It works just fine, 1 drop on a clean and dry nut and bolt and it tacks up in just a few seconds just like when it was new and requires just as much torque to break it loose as it did when it was new. Just thought some of you guys would like to know..No need to pitch your old Loctite.

That's cool.  Now if you're really bored test how it performs after being frozen.  Tell me I'm no the only one that has left the stuff out in a tool box or on in the shed over many a winter day.

Ok, I tested it.
          It still tastes the same............yucky.

I've found that if I add enough Bailey's that I can't even taste the coffee in my coffee.  Good to know that the Loctite sticks around that long.

Speaking of Locktite "sticking around" for years, have you tried the stuff in stick form?  It's great.....no mess, and you can use it as deodorant!

I have some of the blue locktite in the tube/stick. The OL was riding on the back of the bike and she told me her lips were chapped so I reached in the windshield bag and handed her the tube and she put some on her lips. Funny thing happened she didn't say a word to me all the way home. The blue locktite in the tube is some good sh8.

Well I believe my first wife used loctite on the lower play region 30 years ago..I think I got thru it 2 times to create my 2 daughters...soon I tired of hitting that wall and moved on to a new model with easier entry...

Her new man in her life has told me that he has failed many times getting by it...so that stuff is good for 30 years...

I love it.  Got a stick of the blue, a stick of the red and a stick of anti-seize also.  Beats having all those dried up little tubes laying around the shop, and tolerates being frozen as well.

KY jelly goes well with that too.  It spreads real easy but doesn't have much flavor!

I use to live in Canada for six years.
Had two kid there then moved to Kentucky.
I still have the same milkman.

Those Canadians are slick.     I'm still scratching my head on that one.

Loctite??  Sorry, I got side tracked.......I think I have the same UPS man too.

Loctite Thread Lockers will last for years. I should know I spend 35 years working for the Company. I have some that dates back to the 70's and it still works. The stick form has got to be one of there best developments. No more running off the parts while you are applying it.

Frankie42,

Locktite's technical department told me recently on two occasions that their threadlockers are only recommended for 24 months.  I believe the product tech sheets say the same.  They also explained how to read the date codes.  Because of this I threw out some expensive stuff that I had around.  What's your thinking on this?  tia
