Hello,

I have a question on behalf of a friend of mine, who does not have a logon for TT.

We live in NJ, my friend has 2 Harleys and wants to sell one, both him and his wife agree --- 2 cars, 2 bikes, insurance $$, does not use both. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good online advertisement - he would like to get as many views/hits as possible. I will check back to see any replies, then I will pass the information on.

Thanks,
Bob

rkcbob, I would put it in the swapmeet section on this site and I would put it on craigslist. This is all for free. If he puts it on ebay he will have to pay a percentage. If he puts in on a site like traderonline.com, he'll have to pay.

I put my brother in laws bike on CL just a couple of weeks ago and I sold it in 2 days.

I have used craigslist with good results. I would recommend a cash deal only. Been a lot of scams on there. Even so, i would use them again. If he does, make sure to add pics, that really made a difference for me.  Good luck

Never used CL to sell, but have bought tools off CL.

I have sold 4 Harleys on eBay over the years.  Offered to allow seller to back out of bike wasnt as advertised/described, and offered to take it to a local dealer for a full checkout.  If you come across a seller on eBay that doesnt accomodate you, then walk.  Also, dont be afraid to ask for additinal pictures beyond what the listing has.  And, if it doesnt have any pics, or low quality, stay away from it.

Sellers on eBay, or CL for that matter, need to realize that someone paying thousands for something online without seeing/touching it, require a lot of reassurances.  The seller needs to accomodate potential buyersa best he can, and return emails promptly, especially near auction end--there will usually be a lot of questions come your way.

In essence, look at it from the buyers perspective and let that guide you in how you deal with selling it.  If you dont treat buyers that way you would want to be treated, dont expect to sell it.

And, in this economic climate, dont get mad if someone offers you way less than the bike is worth.  Dont take it personal, there are a lot of guys looking for a killer deal.  Just tell em thanks, but no thanks and stand firm on a fair price for the bike.  If they want it bad enough, they will come up with the coin.

Check out chopperexchange dot com. I've heard from a couple of guys recently that had great luck. Don't know about any fees though.

Thank you for the replies. I never thought of Craigslist --- just E-Bay. I will pass the information on to my friend.
