F'n A!!!! That's a retread being passed off as a new tire.  :wtf:

I don't think so. I doubt if there are enough worn out tires available that haven't failed.

Well I sent pictures to customerservice.us@metzelermoto.com 36 hours ago and no responce yet.

FLTRI

I wouldn't hold my breath. After all what would you expect them to tell you besides there is nothing wrong with the mold marking?

only thing else is to try disputing it on your C/C if you used it to buy the tire....

Princess Butt

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm in the market for new tires, looks like Metzler is in the "DO NOT BUY" column.
Shiny side up, rubber side down.

that is a good idea about sending them this thread.   I was a Metz fan until I heard about the Brazil tires and went E3s.    It is a wonder that they have not noticed any drop in sales....

TXChop

I wish Metz would see this thread...Maybe that dick that works in customer service would see this. Still have 7 defects sitting behind my shed. Oh wait, chunks flying off must be beacuse i put the wrong pressure in.......

harleytoprock

you gotta wonder how many riders did Metzeler send to their graves.

V24me

Wondering if I should take the Metzler off the front of my bike.  It's only got 1k miles on it, but looks good so far.  How fast do they go from looking ok, to death on the highway?

ThumperDeuce

I have been running 880XXL Metzlers up front on my Deuce for the last 5 seasons with no problems.  They last have lasted about 10k-12k.
Idiots are fun, no wonder every village wants one.

EL-AL

I've switch off Metzlers and now use Dunlops. The Metzlers aren't  the tire they used to be.

Now that's a true statement. I remember the ME88. It was the best tire for FXRs IMO. Since they tried to make 1 tire for all HDs, the sidewalls are too soft IMO, for my riding style.

Well boys and girls, here's the responce I received from Metzeler:

Some Metzeler tires use a different method of manufacturing where the sidewall compounds join on the sidewall, and this is true in your case. Your tire does need to be cleaned and once this is done this will become less apparent. You can clean tires with a mild soapy water and a medium stiff nylon brush or simply with a towel and some elbow grease. Please note this tire is not defective and if you need further help you should contact your selling/installing dealer for assistance. Have a great day

"Some tires use a different method of manufacturing"
Yea, as in cheap, profit before reliability/safety. What a bunch of moron's. So,  cleaning a tire will compensate for a weak sidewall and ill handling/mileage? Well heck, a little armour all and we can run bicycle tires.

WOW!! They must really know tires if they could determine that from the pictures you sent. Didn't even have to see it in person or have a rep inspect it.
Forget the bull"Potty mouth" - it's all about two wheels and a motor!

Maybe they're trying something new where the customer finishes the manufacturing process at home. :crook:
That picture doesn't say good things about the quality control at the plant, does it?
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.

EL-AL

They should change their name to "May-Pop"......
Because any minute, they "May-POP!"

keep that email.   If anything happens, they will have huge liability......

I still think you should dispute this with your C/C

Tsani

If you don't feel the tire is unsafe or don't like the look of it, why not just take it back to the guy that sold it to you?  I don't know if your tire is defective or not, but I would not have bought it if it looked like that. If you bought it on line, then a dispute with your credit card may be the only recourse.

As for Metzelers, I haven't had a problem with them. Do a search on line and the number one defective motorcycle tire that comes up is Dunlop. But I have never had a problem with Dunlops either and would not hesitate to use them if I chose to.

Wish you luck on resolving the issue. If it were me, I would not run the tire. Not worth it to me.

Yeah if you wash the tire with soapy water, a brush, and a DA or a 4 inch grinder with some 80 grit on it, it won't be noticable!  If you pour gas on it and light it on fire it won't be very noticable either.
