i just got a 2001 dyna super and its got strait extentions on it.will it run better with some kind of baffle ??

Pushrod

depends,   are they straight headpipes or do they have a balancer tube for the headers?

srtaight pipes like drag pipes will kill bottom end power,   but the balancer helps out in this area,

I always though that the balancer was to help share flow.. With straight pipes, you don't have to worry about flow.. How does the balance tube help? Do you have any data on this?

OK.
You put the straights on because you like the sound/look.
Now the low end power is MIA, and that is the reason for the question??
This works..........
Drill a clearence hole for a 1/4" bolt, about 2-3" from the back of the pipe.
Install a 1 1/2" long, 1/4" bolt, and stack as many 5/16" nuts on it as you can, and then nut it with a 1/4" nut.
If more is wanted/needed, then use a 5/16" bolt, w/ 3/8" nuts.
It'll bring up the missing torque, and barely affect the top end charge, or the sound, the open pipes are giving you, and best of all, it might cost all of $1.50.

Better yet, pitch the straight pipes in the "heave ho" pile and get a good 2into1 or a set of Cycle Shack slipons used with the stock headpipe.
Just my $.02,

yea, as an owner of 2 Dyna's with CS slip-ons...I agree with Bob and Scott.  Best performance for the money for a Dyna.

Ok Max,   The balance pipe      helps balance the intake draw pulses in the manifold created by the sound waves racing around in the exhaust,   any time ive replaced drag pipes with 2 into ones or a good two into two with balancer an good mufflers  the bottom end wakes up every time,
back pressure plays it part too,

have i got dyno/ flow bench data to prove it? NO

only my personal experiances,

I find straight pipes to have no zippy feel. The bike feels doggy with no get up and go. I preach to my straight pipe friends about the torque benifit from some back pressure. But it seems that when we are twisting throttles they always stay right with me. Maybe they are turning their throttles more than me?

These tend to give you lots of hp provided you dyno for them but you will loose all of your torque. which is you roll on acceleration.

Seems to me that that the balance tube only helps when you have a restriction as it balances the flow through the mufflers. It might serve to broaden the power curve from the disruption in flow but that was the reason I questioned rep1... On a Dyna the cross over is pretty close to the end of the head pipe and only about 1 inch in diameter.. Straight pipe depending on length may kill its effect..  Anyway what Bob, Scott and Mayor says is right.. Max
