A bud of mine is looking at a 2001 Duece (or however ya spell it).

- 15,000 miles
- VH short shots
- Ness Big Sucker
- Needs tires (rear at least). It has a Metz on back, so it has been changed once at least.
- Misc bolt on chrome (belt gaurd, pegs, etc).
- Carbbed

The seller is asking $9500....seems liek a good deal, but I'd like a little input. Any things to look for??

Thanks,

Burch

Price seems OK.   Market is soft on Craigslist for Deuce's. Seems everyone wants Baggers.

I had an '01 Deuce and an '02 Road King.  I sold the Deuce and kept the RK.  I miss that bike and sometimes I wish I would have kept it and sold the RK.  But, I'm an ole phart and the RK fits me right.  Plus, I like that big ole FLH front end.

I sold mine last June, sounds about like the one your bud is looking for.  It had about 13k miles, needed a front tire, V&H Long Shots, SE AC, LA Chopper Z Bars.  All the switch housings, pegs etc were chrome, mini tach and a bunch of other chrome.  Also had hard bags for it.  As I recall I sold 'er for $9500.  I think the price you mentioned is a good 'un.

I live in Oklahoma.  You have to have a fair amount of time on your hands AND drive a long way to find anything worth looking at.

If I had more time I'd own a bagger.  Owning a Deuce or anything else without longrange capability isn't a good choice as the only bike but it makes a great second bike.

Long range capability is highly subjective. My Deuce and I have traveled roads from Vancouver to Vermont, Alabama to Arizona and many places in between. I have factory hard bags and luggage rack I can install for such journeys. I must admit I enjoy a leisurely pace with lots of stops, and will not be entering an Iron Butt Rally anytime soon! A comfortable (for me) Corbin Hollywood solo saddle helps a lot. The stock seat was terrible.
Upgrading the front suspension with Gold Valve cartridge emulators, forged wheel and a fork brace helped ride and handling a lot. However, the "SofTail" rear suspension is not too effective and sharp-edged pot-holes are best avoided if possible!
I may yet get a Touring model one day if I get old (I'm only 63). Or maybe not.

..back in October 02..I bought a new 03 FLHT..the lowriders were  more money than my standard..who ever priced those bikes was out to lunch...last november I bought an 06 lowrider..the price was half of what they once cost new..it has a 6 speed 88 c.i. motor..fast bike...but I still can't believe they cost more than a standard...as for the deuce...it's a nice bike..kind of a fancy dyna wide glide..myself I 'd be shopping for a six speed..lower rpm is a longer engine life..06 is a good year..first year of the 6 speed last year of the 88..no runout probs..just my 02's worth
