Looks like I'm trading in the '01 Road King for a '05 Road Glide tomorrow....gonna miss the RK, but I've wanted a RG for 5 years or so...the price is right, so I guess I'm in. I doubt I'll do anything more than a windsheild and a seat on this bike....it has the regular "bolt on" chrome, Reinhardt true duals, air kit....

Any good or bad things to say about the '05 model?

Thanks,

Burch

Seems to me there was a valve guide or seal issue with them, maybe a it was 04's or 06's. may want to check it out.

It was the valve seals on many 05's.Evidence of leaky seals often shows up on the spark plugs.
It must be true,I read it on the internet.

I have the VIN, so I should be able to see if the seals have been fixed, right?

It also has a warranty...rather not use it though.

I'll ask the dealer in the morning...nothing is final yet...planed on doing the paperwork tomorrow...

Thanks,

Road Glides rule!  Congrats, Burch.

You wont miss the RK much.  I left my 07 RK behind for my 07 RG.  No regrets, and its my 2nd RG.

The seal problem was fixed by Moco sometime during the 05 production run, and you should be able to tell by the VIN whether your bike was affected. I noticed plug fouling when I pulled them the first time. Mine were replaced under warranty and no problems since. Not a big deal.

The RK does have that clean, cool, nostalgic look to it and is quite a few pounds lighter. You'll like the sound system, additional coverage and aerodynamics of the RG fairing as compared to the RK.

Ride safe and enjoy!

Congrats BURCH!!! I sold the RK last year and picked up an 05 RG and never looked back. It's the most comfortable bike I have ever owned. Enjoy!
