Seems the '05 Road Glide I just bought puts off a more heat than my old '01 Road King....does this sound right? Air temp reads about 10 degrees warmer than ambient air temp (it was running around 95, and was 85 outside)....runs just fine, just seems warmer......

The major differnrce I know of is carbed vs. FI and dino vs. synthetic oil....

Thanks for the help,

Could it be from less air flow behind the fairing?

My Panhead with no windshield always feels cooler than the RG.

My guess is that your 01RK is carb'd with a Stage 1 kit and the 05 is stock fuel injected.  If that is the case, then the 05 is running much leaner and therefore hotter.  My 06 which i've modified with a 95 kit and cams does not put out enough heat for me to notice unless I'm sitting in traffic for an extended period of time.  As part of the upgrade, we increased the fuel going to the engine for increased power and cooling.

The RG will feel a little warmer, due to the fairing.  I had a 07 RK and it felt cooler than my 07 RG, or my 05 RG.  I am sure the difference is the fairing.  But, you may want to richen up the AFR anyway, in the event thats causing it to run hot.  The stock AFRs are too lean, and create more heat.  Not a lot, but enough to matter.

The service manual says to remove the half round baffle under the fairing at the streering head when the temps are over 70 deg. This allows more air to flow up under the tank and over the heads.
I just recently say this in the manual and haven't tried it yet but it may help.
