Best area to stay in Winnipeg.

I'm going up to the Hog rally in Winnipeg in July and was wondering what area I should stay away from motel wise. I am looking for a "Mom & Pop" type motel around the university/mint area.

Any suggestions or recommendations? I am a cheak traveler.

Are you headed to Winnipeg HD or Lonestar HD. If you are coming in on hwy 75 there are a number of places to stay on Pembina HWY. That is what 75 turns into. I think there is a few around the university.

I stayed by the casino on McPhillips Street, the North end of Winnipeg. Did not like the area at all--would recommend staying away from that part of town .

I do not recommend staying in downtown Winnipeg - crime courtesy of our northern brothers.

As far as cheap goes, I can't help you, but I'm sure others can.

I would also suggest staying on the south end of the Pembina Hwy.  BTW, do you know that the  Provincial bird is the mosquito???
