I am looking to add a power commander or something equivalent to my '07 Ultra.  Any recommendations?  Also, I purchased the extended warranty when I got the bike, will the addition of this type of device do anything to void the Harley extended service plan?

Why, and/or, what are you hoping to achieve with the addition of a tuner on an otherwise stock(?) bike? What are your long term performance goals, or would this be all you do? You have many options and Power Commander is a good one, but there are ones that are a little cheaper and more user friendly for the guys that are not super tech savvy.

Not saying that it WILL change the warranty, but ANY tuner is liable to void the powertrain portion, for sure.  It's ALL a gamble.

Something to keep in mind.

I, too, have extended warranty, and I simply do not go to dealer for powertrain stuff, and let the dealer work with the rest of the bike.  I have built engine, etc.

Why are you looking at a tuning product?  Tell us why you want, and maybe direct you differently...

Oh No!

I have already added the Arlen Ness big sucker air filter system and also a set of otherwise stock muffles that have had the baffles modified to enrich the sound.  I understand that HD sets the fuel/air mixture on the lean side to accommodate the California air quality standards.  I live in southern Oregon and our summer temps are consistently in the 90+ range.  I would like to rich-en up the fuel mixture if for no other reason than to let the engine run a little cooler.  I have already had problems with the rear cylinder that required extensive maintenance and just don't want to play that game again.

You'll be given other options, for sure, but hands-down the best for your bike/EFI is the TTS tuning kit.  http://mastertune.net/

I did a PC-III on my '07 road king for about 15k miles and it worked okay for a "canned map" but the base calibration for the bike with the TTS was night-and-day better, and it improved even more after running the kit's v-tune process.

I wouldn't do it, but if you go ahead and disable closed-loop operation with a piggyback unit, you're pretty much going to need to get it individually tuned for your bike and fuel.  At a minimum you'd need to reset your AFVs just to get as close as possible with a canned PC map.

Yes, your bike surely is VERY lean right now!   Hmmmmm....

I tend to agree with Glens on this.  The power commander items disconnect the O2 sensors.  Not going to say that is a bad thing... but I, personally like the idea that they are still connected, and adjusting for fuel variances.  TTS is kinda pricey, though... like I think $500.

What Glens is saying is: your bike, over time, has ATTEMPTED to adjust itself to meet the fuel needs from running it... these are 'trims'. (Adaptive Fuel Values).  If you were to start over 'fresh' with a PC, or ANY tuner... the best road to decent performance would be to 'clear' the AFVs from the system.  TTS does this automatically, as an example.  An 'add-on' will not.

But... it all should come down to how computer 'handy' you feel.  The TTS takes a bit of expertise to do right, and the PCs are a bit easier to deal with. And... it's not like it is a MUST to have the O2s, just an improvement, IMHO, to have them.

Check BOTH out and get back with us.  You ARE correct in your assumptions on needing a tuning device BTW.
Oh No!

I would go with the TTS system.  Doesn't matter what you have done to the bike or what you are going to do.  You will not outgrow this system.  (within reason)

At $425, it's still tempting for me to replace my PCIII with TTS. I've had this unit for well over 5 years... :crook:

After about 5 years my pcIII died on me. Replaced with TTS

Get the dual-bike unit and use it on both the bikes in your sig.  Probably can go closed-loop on the 05 without too much trouble.

my experience:  buy the cheapest crap(pc3) and con the tuner into doing it for free
