For camping....try Bulldog Campground just five miles east of the 1st Sturgis exit.

sorry.  No camping.  This is for a buddy so I am not sure of dates.  If anyone has leads, let me know.

Call the city of Sturgis, they can give you the number of the local housing.  We did that one year and got a place for 50 dollars a night-per head.  Not bad considering motel rates.

Dates?  Does he need a date, or a place to stay?!?!?!  lol

If you want to sleep at night I would suggest looking in the out laying area. Spearfish is a nice place has both camping and motels. Custer might be a good possibility too. If 60+ miles out is not too much then Hot Springs might be considered. Prices aren't quite so bad in the out laying area but they all require a "warm up ride to town" so to speak. Enjoy the greatest Rally there is and ride safe.....   cranky

 for Spearfish City Park campground.  Very nice and you can walk to restaurants and bars  :soda: easily at night.  We've stayed in Spearfish for over 10 years.

What cranky said.  I stay at KOA in Hill City.  Quieter than Sturgis and a nice ride to/from.  Close to Custer, Rushmore and some good places to eat and drink in town.  Just watch the cops, they like their radar guns.  lol  Highly recommended.

In '07 my brother and I stayed at the Dakota Cowboy motel in Custer, SD.  We only went to Sturgis one day and the rest of the trip was spent in the Black Hills.  IIRC, the rate was $125/night and I made the reservations in February.

I meant to clarify the KOA, and forgot.  They have cabins to rent, and also have lodge houses.  So, camping not required, especially at one of the houses--they are fully furnished.  The cabins you just bring your sleeping bag.

Taking a chance but the last 2 -3 years there have been vacancy signs at lots of hotels in Sturgis/Rapid City/Deadwood etc.  I have rooms for the last weekend at the Fairfield Inn just east of the Rapid City Mall; Friday & Saturday - $120/night.

PS there is a lodging site on the internet for rally accomodations; try that.

I like to stay in Newcastle WY when I go to Sturgis. It's a 50(?) mile ride from Sturgis, but nice to get away from the noise and crowds every night. Plus, it's a little cheaper.
