Anyone familiar with David Reed www.david-reed.com aftermarket vented lowers?
Look close to newer style stock lowers as far as I can tell. I'd like to know if anyone has seen them in person, and can vouch for quality and etc.
Thanks.

They look an awful lot like the ones that I got off of e-bay from a place called the Fairing Factory.  Their website with product listing is here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/fairingfactory/sets/72157619694567388/

I got mine last fall in Vivid Black, shipped to me for under $300.00.  They work pretty well and the fit is very good also.  Look them up on E-bay, nice folks to deal with although English is not their first language.

You aren't kidding DGlide, they look identical to me. Can't help but wonder if they are the same ones just marketed by david reed.

Are you happy with the quality of construction as compared to HD's?

Hydroman,

I've only seen other bikes with the factory vented lowers, never owned a pair of my own.  From what I see of the quality and fit, these are pretty close to the factory fit and finish, but are less than 1/2 the price of the HD lowers.  Factor in the glove boxes and I figure I'm way ahead.  Riding home from work last week one of the glovebox covers blew off (my fault for not having it snapped all the way on) and disappeared at 80 mph.   :embarrassed:  I wrote to Factory Fairings about buying another right side cover and got a response that they were sending me new covers for both sides, no cost to me, not even for shipping.

That really surprised me, but I can't argue with great customer service.

Desperado

DGlide,  The factory farings or at least the ones that came on my 2005 Ultra have a short tether cord that attaches to the glovebox cover and to the faring to prevent losing the cover if it comes unsnapped or if you are trying to get something out while moving - something I have done but don't suggest for safety reasons.  You might want to look at adding something like that.  Tie a strong nylon cord around one of the snaps on the inside of the cover.  It flares out so that should be easy.  Drill a small hole in the plastic lip - under the part that is covered by the glovebox cover.  Insert the other end of the cord and tie it around a small washer to keep it from pulling out.  Look at some factory lowers and you will see what I'm talking about.  Might save you from losing another.

I own a pair of the lowers that Dglide speaks of that are from the fairing factory. The last time I posted about these it started a huge controversy because they came from China or wherever.
Here's the deal, the lowers are embossed on the inside with the HD part number and the little bar & shield logo, leading me to believe that these are actual HD lower fairing shells, and the rest of the set up is made by the fairing factory. These things fit like a glove.

Thanks lilchief, good info...I was waiting to get slammed about the China thing, almost thought about deleting my post. We'll see what happens now but when I asked the question I had no idea these were a Chinese product.  :nix:

If you never bought a Harley or other accessory made in China, you would never buy many accessories at all.  Just food for thought.

I'm almost certain that the fairing lower shell and the cap are OEM HD, and the rest of the parts, (glove box, vents, etc) are made by the fairing factory. It wouldn't suprise me if they actually make the lower shells for HD. Like a wrote previously, mine are embossed with the logo and P/N, and so are the caps. I ended up converting my glove boxes into speakers anyway with a little work.
