My SBC heads are about 6 years old and in great shape but the exhaust seals popped loose. These heads were done right after they started adding iron valve guides and the old seals were neoprene. The guy fixing them has some Vitons to replace with. I called Charlie but nobody answered the phone. So what kind of Loctite and how much should we use?

Thanks, cling

Hey Rob,

Valves were all ok luckily and the springs all passed the weight test. Waiting on GMR Perf for my 98" now.

UPDATE: I called Baisley and they told me they don't use any. I remember some guys here had trouble before and used a drop of red so I assumed that was the thing to do.

Thanks, cling

Hey Cling, I'm back for keeps now and if we do this right we'll be back on the road at the same time. I might need a break-in partner to ride with :bike: I'll be down your way next weekend to pick up my tman intake.

I would advise not to use it. Have had no issues but the guides I use are grooved to hold the seals and they push on hard, and 06up are captured by the lower spring seat.

I've used super glue...lol.  Right or wrong as far as I know it worked.  :teeth:

Have used lc-tit green bearing set without a problem.  AV&V guides are grooved where the valve stem seal seat.

+1...3M makes a product called Scotch Weld. Use it all the time. Guess if I had to use something this would be it based on its performance. Capable of gluing grease to snot... :hyst: Otherwise my personal fear factor with a loctite product in the valve train is it breaking up after hardening and getting into the oil. Granted you don't use a ton of it in this application.

You don't use Loctite  (threadlocker) on Viton (syn rubber).  Loctite works on metal, and best on "active" ferrous metal (metal that rusts).

we are talking about metal to metal.

i would NEVER use loctite to hold seals on,if guides are machined right and the proper seals/methods are used to install them, none is needed
